SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Poetry & Open MIC
DESCRIPTION:Rod Hatter\, resident poet and current host of KXCR 90.7’s Florence Radio Poet Society\, will lead us in a gathering of the poets to celebrate the season\, and our freedom of literary expression.  \nOur quarterly open MIC’s encourage readers to dive deep\, identify and share what is most meaningful and healing in writing\, and in our everyday lives. Starting this month\, we’re also opening the stage up to storytelling\, song and musical performances! \nOpen members of the public; this is a gathering of adults discussing personally relevant themes\, but we don’t have an age restriction. There may be the occasional PG-13 content shared. \nPlease check out our selection of poetry books for sale in the Gallery while you’re here\, and connect with our poets to learn about additional events and offerings.  \nRSVP to let us know you’re coming! Readings will be conducted in an informal “round robin” format\, but it’s good to know how many readers to plan for. You’ll get to share at least 5-10 minutes of your work.

SUMMARY:2025 Community Christmas Basket Project
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 51st Annual Christmas Food Basket Project!\nSoroptimist International of Florence and our volunteers will be handing out Christmas Food Baskets at Siuslaw Middle School on Saturday\, December 20th from 10am to 1pm.\nNo registration is required to receive a Christmas Food Basket. Just come on down when we are distributing.\nAll cars must line up on 27th Street between Kingwood and Oak Street and will be directed on how to enter the pick up line.\nThe Christmas Food Basket Project is coordinated by Soroptimist International of Florence. At last year’s event\, Soroptimist members\, along with our over 100 volunteers\, handed out about $40\,000 worth of food and holiday cheer to 459 families representing over 2\,200 people.\nInterested in helping to fund the Christmas Food Basket Project? Donations can be mailed to Soroptimist International of Florence at PO Box 1209\, Florence\, OR 97439.
