DESCRIPTION:Join the City of Florence for the 2026 Community Scavenger Hunt! The City is utilizing GooseChase to encourage exploration of the Florence Community. This year’s Community Scavenger Hunt is sponsored by the Central Oregon Coast Board of Realtors. Thank you! \nThe game will go live on Friday\, July 3\, at 8 a.m. and close on Sunday\, July 19\, at midnight. These dates encompass both the Fourth of July holiday and the 2026 Florence Community Block Party on Friday\, July 17. \nHow it Works:\nComplete the missions to earn points! The top three to five players with the most points will receive a Florence Swag Bag. \nOur community scavenger hunt will have three types of missions: \n\nKnowledge Missions: Participants will have the opportunity to answer questions and riddles.\nPhoto Missions: Photo missions will direct participants to take photos at the Block Party\, with members of our community\, at Florence landmarks\, or just doing fun activities.\nVideo Missions: The video missions challenge participants to complete fun videos at the Block Party\, with members of our community\, or at Florence landmarks\, at home\, or around the community.\nBonus Missions: We have incorporated some special bonus opportunities in the photo and video missions. SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at Heceta Dunes – Saturday\, July 18 – A Power of Florence Event
DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is proud to be a part of the annual Power of Florence event\, a day where area residents and visitors can volunteer and give back to the Florence community. For this event\, ODRC will be at Heceta Dunes\, one of our “Preserve the Best” locations. This is a location where volunteers can make a difference by removing invasive plants like Scotch broom\, and the native plants and open sand habitat will survive into the future. \nOn Saturday\, July 18 from 10 AM to Noon\, volunteers will remove Scotch broom plants on the flat near the entrance to the dunes\, working east to the tree island. It is a short walk on flat ground until the tree island which is a moderate slope. This is a family event\, children and grandchildren are welcome. Come for as long as you can\, if you need to leave early\, that is fine. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDirections: Take Highway 101 north of Florence and turn left on Heceta Beach Rd. (the road to Driftwood Shores)\, turn right on 4th Ave. and go to the end\, turn right on Joshua Lane and go to the end. Please do not block driveways or mailboxes. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.
