We will hike to our worksite\, about 3/4 to 1 mile in. There are some ups and downs along this trail\, about 50 – 100 feet of elevation gain. There is no restroom at the trailhead. Closest ones are a 1/4 mile north at the Cape Pereptua Visitor Center or 1/4 mile south at the Neptune South parking lot. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. Patricia is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist who will bring her expertise and enthusiasm to this event. SWC staff will guide attendees in native plant identification and forest bathing techniques. People will be able to walk and bike to each of the 8 locations: \n\n#1 Veterans Memorial Park — “Resonance” by Jenny Ellsworth\n#2 River Roasters – “The Old Rooster” by Mark Twain Stevenson\n#3 Rain Garden – “Genesis by Sharon Agnor”\n#4 East Interpretive – “Sky Protector” by Charles Fitzgerald\n#5 Gazebo Plaza – “Titus – Dungeness Crab” by Jud Turner\n#6 Secret Garden – “Carried by the Breeze” by Paul Reimer\n#7 Maple Street Park – “Move Along” by Dale Compton\n#8 Chamber Lawn – “Steel Sprig” by Diego Harris\n\nMembers of the Public Arts Committee will have information on each art piece\, including price information\, an artist bio\, and description of the medium used to create each one. People will be taking pictures and video during the Art Walk. \nThe City of Florence Art Exposed Rotating Outdoor Art Gallery Program is a dynamic bi-annual rotation of public art that improves the livability of the Florence area\, creates a unique sense of place\, and enhances community identity\, while also providing an increased economic impact for visitors and residents. Sweet Creek Falls work will be an onoging project with the Siuslaw Watershed Council doing a variety of different tread work to improve the condition of the trail. We will work at a gentle pace\, enjoy the forest landscape\, and take some time for lunch. \nHiking information: \nWe will meet at the Sweet Creek Falls Trailhead and hike in about 1/3 to a 1/2 mile into the worksite. We will be walking over rocky terrian\, bridges\, and catwalks. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons\, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early. \nEvent details: \nDetailed event information\, including directions to the meeting location\, will be provided to registrants via email 48 hours prior to the event. DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is hosting a volunteer event to remove Scotch broom at the John Dellenback Dunes on Saturday\, May 3 from 10:00 AM to Noon. Volunteers are needed to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom from one of our “Protect the Best” sites. It is approximately 0.4 miles uphill on the trail to the worksite. This is a family event\, so children and grandchildren are welcome. After the event\, it is a short walk to an outstanding viewpoint\, and the kids can enjoy rolling down the large sand dune! \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have a limited supply of tools you can borrow. Day use fees are waived for volunteers at this event. \nDirections: From Florence\, take Hwy 101 South approximately 32.8 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn right (west) into the trailhead. \nFrom Reedsport\, take Hwy 101 South approximately 10.5 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn right (west) into the trailhead. \nFrom North Bend\, take Hwy 101 North approximately 13.0 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn left (west) into the trailhead.
