SUMMARY:WLECN Monthly Neighborhood Emergency Radio Check-in
DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. While you can listen in on any GMRS radio on channel 22\, you must have a radio that can accept programming of send/receive offsets and tones (CH 22R (462.725MHz +5MHz offset  186.2Hz Tone).  Please contact Jay Guettler @ westlaneecn@gmail.com for more information or just join us on the radio at the listed time and date.

SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at John Dellenback Dunes - Saturday\, May 3
DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is hosting a volunteer event to remove Scotch broom at the John Dellenback Dunes on Saturday\, May 3 from 10:00 AM to Noon. Volunteers are needed to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom from one of our “Protect the Best” sites. It is approximately 0.4 miles uphill on the trail to the worksite. This is a family event\, so children and grandchildren are welcome. After the event\, it is a short walk to an outstanding viewpoint\, and the kids can enjoy rolling down the large sand dune! \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have a limited supply of tools you can borrow. Day use fees are waived for volunteers at this event. \nDirections: From Florence\, take Hwy 101 South approximately 32.8 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn right (west) into the trailhead. \nFrom Reedsport\, take Hwy 101 South approximately 10.5 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn right (west) into the trailhead. \nFrom North Bend\, take Hwy 101 North approximately 13.0 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn left (west) into the trailhead.

Each session\, we will practice our drawing skills together in a supportive and relaxed environment. Also open to members of the public; beginners welcome! \nLed by a creative arts professional\, at each session\, we will explore a new design\, drawing technique or meditative drawing style. Each assignment will be guaranteed to help you get in the “flow”\, and will help you build new perspectives and skills. If you like\, you can also use the time to work on a meditative drawing project of your own\, share with the group\, trade tips and tricks\, and get technical guidance and support from one another and the group leader. \nYou’re welcome to bring your own drawing supplies and reference material to practice with; We will have extra tools and materials on hand as needed. \nDrawing supplies may also be purchased in advance from Beaux Arts art supply store in Florence\, located just off Hwy. 101 in the Coastal Fitness shopping plaza. \nYou may pre-register for this event\, or pay at the desk at time of session. DESCRIPTION:McKenzie River Trust is hosting a “Connect with the Land Tour” on Saturday\, April 26 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area. Registration is required and space is limited. Use this link to register: https://give.mckenzieriver.org/…/secrets-of-the…/e673319. \nThe Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is one of the largest expanses of temperate coastal sand dunes in the world. Join us for a guided hike with members of the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative (ODRC) to learn about hte history and geology of this special place. ODRC members Dina Pavlis (dunes enthusiast and author) and Armand Rebischke (Restoration Botanist\, Siuslaw National Forest) will take us through the forest and across open sand\, sharing about the history and geology of the Oregon dunes. Dina and Armand will discuss how the dunes formed\, the importance of the open sand habitat\, why open sand is disappearing\, and the efforts in place to try to save it. Additionally\, you will explore a ghost forest\, learn about the native plants and animals that call the dunes “home\,” and discover the important benefits of the open sand habitat. \nThis hike will traverse sand that may be soft in some locations. There will be some elevation gains during the hike (with a short rest time/talk after each elevation gain). Closed-toe shoes\, sunscreen\, water\, and snacks are recommended. Dress for the weather (layers recommended; bring rain gear if showers are predicted). \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place. \nFrom Florence\, OR take Highway 101 south 11.4 miles. Look for the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area sign. Turn right (west) into the parking area. \nFrom Reedsport\, OR take Highway 101 north 11.5 miles. Look for the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area sign. Turn left (west) into the parking area. \nParking: A day use pass ($5.00) is required for this event.  The pass may be purchased and printed ahead of time for your vehicle by going to this site: Siuslaw National Forest Site Pass in Oregon – Recreation.gov. A Northwest Forest Pass\, Oregon Pacific Coast Pass\, Interagency Annual Pass\, or an Interagency Senior Pass may also be used instead of the day use pass.
