DESCRIPTION:The NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group is coming to the Florence community beginning May 9\, 2024. It is a free\, peer-led support group for any adult who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. You will gain insight from hearing the challenges and successes of others\, and the groups are led by trained leaders who’ve been there. \nNAMI’s support groups are unique because they follow a structured model to ensure you and others in the group have an opportunity to be heard and to get what you need. No specific medical therapy or treatment is endorsed and everything shared in the group is confidential. \nThis support group is free of cost to participants\, designed for adults (18+) with mental health conditions\, and is led by people with mental health conditions. \nEach meeting is 90 minutes long and meets at 5:30-7 pm on the 2nd Thursday of every month starting May 9\, 2024 at the Laurelwood Homes’ Community Room on 1137 Maple Street in Florence\, OR. Doors will close to the public at 5:45 pm to ensure the privacy of our participants

DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative’s 100th Volunteer Event!!! \nWe need your help pulling Scotch broom at the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area\, Saturday\, May 11 starting at 10 AM. We will be pulling broom for approximately an hour\, then there will be a guided hike from 11 to 12:15 led by local author and dunes interpretative guide\, Dina Pavlis! Dina will lead us through the dunes to a ghost forest\, exploring native plants along the way. She will also discuss the topography\, geology and history of the Oregon dunes. Following the hike\, we will have a Bring Your Own lunch with drinks and cookies provided by ODRC. This is a family event\, so children and friendly dogs on leash are welcome. Please note\, the hike is roughly 1/2 mile and requires the ability to hike in soft sand and there is some elevation gain. \nBring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, lunch\, and sunscreen. If you have shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers\, please bring them. If you don’t\, ODRC has a limited supply of tools that you can borrow. \nDirections: \nFrom Florence\, OR take Highway 101 south 11.4 miles. Look for the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area sign. Turn right (west) into the parking area. \nFrom Reedsport\, OR take Highway 101 north 11.5 miles. Look for the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area sign. Turn left (west) into the parking area. \nParking: Go past the individual parking spaces next to the side walk\, and park in the parking area for larger vehicles. SUMMARY:TKU Wilderness Ambassador Training – Central Coast
DESCRIPTION:Wilderness Ambassadors make up one branch of TKO’s Trail Ambassdor Program. These volunteers head out on some of the most beloved Wilderness trails on Mt. Hood\, in the Columbia River Gorge\, and new this year (2024) to the Drift Creek Wilderness in Siuslaw National Forest to share Leave No Trace principles\, trail etiquette\, and more with trail users. In partnership with the U.S. Forest Service\, volunteers also gather data on physical and social trail conditions and perform some lights stewardship projects\, such as moving small obstacles from the trail and putting out abandoned campfires. \nThis day long training will cover all the specifics of the Wilderness Ambassador program. DESCRIPTION:The Siuslaw Rhododendron Society is having a spring Rhododendron Flower Show at the Florence Events Center on May 18th and 19st. For more information go to: http://www.siuslawars.org \nThe Siuslaw Chapter Flower Shows are a judged show. We strongly encourage all chapter members and the community at large to participate by bringing many entries. Our aim is to educate and introduce to the show viewers the many selections available in the Rhododendron world. We believe the larger the presentation the greater the learning. \nEntries to the show are accepted on Saturday morning from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. An entry card must be filled out for each entry entered. Entry cards may be obtained at a chapter meeting just before each flower show or at the flower show on Saturday morning. To save time\, you may want to use one of your “stick on” mailing return address labels in the entry card name and address section. \nViewing of the show is open to the public – without charge – as soon as judging is completed. (Typically\, around 12:00 – 12:30 PM) On Saturday the show will be open to the public until 5:00 PM. On Sunday the show is open from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. \nEntries and any ribbons may be retrieved no sooner than 4:30 PM Sunday. Only the person who delivers the entry will be allowed to remove it without previous arrangements. All entries remaining at 5:00 PM will be removed by the show break-down committee. \nA Rhododendron Flower Show is a great place to find what flowers would look great in your garden! The Siuslaw Chapter also has an outdoor plant sale during both shows. Many selections of Rhododendrons and Azaleas are available for a reasonable price. You can usually get access to the plant sale around 10:00 AM on both Saturday morning and Sunday Morning. (Cash\, check\, or credit card.)
