DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. While you can listen in on any GMRS radio on channel 22\, you must have a radio that can accept programming of send/receive offsets and tones (CH 22R (462.725MHz +5MHz offset  186.2Hz Tone).  Please contact Jay Guettler @ westlaneecn@gmail.com for more information or just join us on the radio at the listed time and date.

SUMMARY:Environmental Management Advisory Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Sustaining and improving the City’s livability and quality of life is Goal 2 of the City of Florence work plan. The Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) realizes Goal 2 by developing local strategies and advising the City Council on protecting Florence’s health and environment and conserving energy and natural resources. They are responsible for insuring compliance with the City’s solid waste code (FCC 9-4)\, and DEQ’s recycling education rules (OAR 340-090-0030 & 0040) and they serve as the City’s Tree Board.  \nEMAC consists of 5 to 11 members\, of which the majority must be residents of the City and includes additional ex-officio non-voting members. DESCRIPTION:Getting Loud at the Library \nOnce upon a time\, you may have heard a fairytale: that libraries are quiet places where everyone\, including the staff\, spend their days silently reading. But that was always just a story. As spaces where anyone can walk through the door to find a book and pursue an education\, develop early literacy skills\, log onto a computer\, meet with their neighbors\, or just sit and be\, public libraries in America have always been revolutionary\, and seldom quiet. On October 9\, Siuslaw Public Library Director Meg Spencer will get loud at the City Club of Florence about how the library is helping local residents come together to read and learn. You’ll also learn how that work may be impacted by reduced funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Oregon. This will also be an opportunity to discuss the freedom to read\, and why American democracy\, and public libraries\, are unique in protecting the rights of citizens to make their own choices about what they access at their local library.   \nThis program is sponsored by the City Club of Florence\, which is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Siuslaw Public Library District.
