DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 51st Annual Christmas Food Basket Project!\nSoroptimist International of Florence and our volunteers will be handing out Christmas Food Baskets at Siuslaw Middle School on Saturday\, December 20th from 10am to 1pm.\nNo registration is required to receive a Christmas Food Basket. Just come on down when we are distributing.\nAll cars must line up on 27th Street between Kingwood and Oak Street and will be directed on how to enter the pick up line.\nThe Christmas Food Basket Project is coordinated by Soroptimist International of Florence. At last year’s event\, Soroptimist members\, along with our over 100 volunteers\, handed out about $40\,000 worth of food and holiday cheer to 459 families representing over 2\,200 people.\nInterested in helping to fund the Christmas Food Basket Project? DESCRIPTION:An annual Florence tradition! Walk with us as we “carry the light” through the longest night of the year\, celebrating the return of the Sun. \nNOTE: We meet outside Bridgeport Market starting at 4:45\, with the walk kicking off at 5:00pm.  \nExpect to take around 20-40 minutes at a leisurely pace. Wheelchair accessible. Event will be held rain or shine\, so make sure to dress for the weather. This is an all ages event\, and everyone is welcome to join. Lanterns\, light up toys\, costumery\, Jingle bells\, and merriment encouraged! \nWe’ll meander along the Boardwalk and through Old Town\, and experience the annual light displays\, with magical discoveries and photo opportunities along the way.  \nWe will return to the Studio afterwards for warming up\, cocoa\, and Solstice themed music and singalongs with special guests\, Red Cedar Rhythm!

Each session\, we will practice our drawing skills together in a supportive and relaxed environment. Also open to members of the public; beginners welcome! \nLed by a creative arts professional\, at each session\, we will explore a new design\, drawing technique or meditative drawing style. Each assignment will be guaranteed to help you get in the “flow”\, and will help you build new perspectives and skills. If you like\, you can also use the time to work on a meditative drawing project of your own\, share with the group\, trade tips and tricks\, and get technical guidance and support from one another and the group leader. \nYou’re welcome to bring your own drawing supplies and reference material to practice with; We will have extra tools and materials on hand as needed. \nDrawing supplies may also be purchased in advance from Beaux Arts art supply store in Florence\, located just off Hwy. 101 in the Coastal Fitness shopping plaza. \nYou may pre-register for this event\, or pay at the desk at time of session. DESCRIPTION:Curt Peters is pleased to announce his photo show at Siuslaw Public Library.  This show consists of 35 unreleased images from Curt’s journeys to Costa Rica. \nCurt has been traveling to and photographing the vibrant heart of Costa Rica’s rainforests for over 30 years.  He loves spending hours in the humidity\, waiting motionless amid sudden rains and insect swarms with some of his photographic treasures which include: fiery red-crowned woodpeckers\, soaring white-fronted parrots\, blazing summer tanagers\, cobalt land crabs\, curious white-faced capuchins\, golden-mantled howlers\, rainbow scarlet macaws\, crested plumed basilisks\, jewel-like hummingbirds\, velvet gartered trogons\, emerald great green macaws\, cascading pagoda flowers and lobster-claw heliconias\, massive-billed chestnut-mandibled toucans\, scarlet-gazed red-eyed treefrogs\, jade-tailed resplendent quetzals\, slow-dreaming brown-throated sloths and a spectacled owl.  These images capture the rainforest’s explosive colors\, intoxicating smells\, and untamed sounds-a living tapestry of wonder. \nCurt Peters is an award-winning photographer and master printer based in Florence\, Oregon. With over 50 years of experience in photography\, he has dedicated his career to capturing the beauty of landscapes\, wildlife\, and human moments while mastering the art of digital imaging and fine art printing. \nCurt’s journey began in his youth\, sparked by early experiments with cameras that quickly evolved into a lifelong passion. After brief studies at Oregon State University\, he transferred to the University of Arizona in Tucson\, honing his skills amid diverse environments. Post-college\, he pointed his lens at the landscapes of 27 countries\, from the Caribbean to Alaska\, building a vast portfolio of hundreds of thousands of images.  Upon settling down in Florence in 2006\, he founded “Digital Dunes Photography”.  Digital Dunes Photography offers a full spectrum of services: wedding\, portrait\, senior\, family\, event\, and product photography\, alongside expert photo restorations\, custom fine art printing\, and reproductions. \nWhile the commercial work at Digital Dunes Photography sustains the studio\, Curt’s true passion lies in fine art landscape and wildlife photography where he has showcased dramatic coastal lighthouses\, Thor’s Well\, the Siuslaw River Bridge\, to name a few locally  A full scope of his images can be found on his “Curtis Peters Photography” website\, curtpeters.com.  Curt says\,” I strive for perfection in every stage from ethical wild shooting\, meticulous post-processing in Adobe Lightroom Classic to preserve natural tones and details\, and obsessive calibration for prints that breath life into the scene.” \nThis show will be on display from January 2 through the end of the month in the lobby of the Siuslaw Public Library located at 1460 9th Street in Florence.

DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence.
