DESCRIPTION:Curt Peters is pleased to announce his photo show at Siuslaw Public Library.  This show consists of 35 unreleased images from Curt’s journeys to Costa Rica. \nCurt has been traveling to and photographing the vibrant heart of Costa Rica’s rainforests for over 30 years.  He loves spending hours in the humidity\, waiting motionless amid sudden rains and insect swarms with some of his photographic treasures which include: fiery red-crowned woodpeckers\, soaring white-fronted parrots\, blazing summer tanagers\, cobalt land crabs\, curious white-faced capuchins\, golden-mantled howlers\, rainbow scarlet macaws\, crested plumed basilisks\, jewel-like hummingbirds\, velvet gartered trogons\, emerald great green macaws\, cascading pagoda flowers and lobster-claw heliconias\, massive-billed chestnut-mandibled toucans\, scarlet-gazed red-eyed treefrogs\, jade-tailed resplendent quetzals\, slow-dreaming brown-throated sloths and a spectacled owl.  These images capture the rainforest’s explosive colors\, intoxicating smells\, and untamed sounds-a living tapestry of wonder. \nCurt Peters is an award-winning photographer and master printer based in Florence\, Oregon. With over 50 years of experience in photography\, he has dedicated his career to capturing the beauty of landscapes\, wildlife\, and human moments while mastering the art of digital imaging and fine art printing. \nCurt’s journey began in his youth\, sparked by early experiments with cameras that quickly evolved into a lifelong passion. After brief studies at Oregon State University\, he transferred to the University of Arizona in Tucson\, honing his skills amid diverse environments. Post-college\, he pointed his lens at the landscapes of 27 countries\, from the Caribbean to Alaska\, building a vast portfolio of hundreds of thousands of images.  Upon settling down in Florence in 2006\, he founded “Digital Dunes Photography”.  Digital Dunes Photography offers a full spectrum of services: wedding\, portrait\, senior\, family\, event\, and product photography\, alongside expert photo restorations\, custom fine art printing\, and reproductions. \nWhile the commercial work at Digital Dunes Photography sustains the studio\, Curt’s true passion lies in fine art landscape and wildlife photography where he has showcased dramatic coastal lighthouses\, Thor’s Well\, the Siuslaw River Bridge\, to name a few locally  A full scope of his images can be found on his “Curtis Peters Photography” website\, curtpeters.com.  Curt says\,” I strive for perfection in every stage from ethical wild shooting\, meticulous post-processing in Adobe Lightroom Classic to preserve natural tones and details\, and obsessive calibration for prints that breath life into the scene.” \nThis show will be on display from January 2 through the end of the month in the lobby of the Siuslaw Public Library located at 1460 9th Street in Florence.

DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. It will be a gift to have you. \n\nTwo Wednesdays\, December 17\, 2025 & January 7\, 2026 1:00-2:30 PM\nNew Life Lutheran Church—2100 Spruce St. Florence\, OR\n\nWhat will Class be like?\nThe Christmas Story in the Gospel of Matthew is found in Matthew’s first two chapters. Chapter 1 is a genealogy\, but it’s a really interesting one!! Chapter 1 also tells about the birth of Jesus. Chapter 2 is about the Wisemen and King Herod. (This is where things really get dicey!) \nIn the first class on Wednesday\, December 17 we will: \n\nIntroduce ourselves.\nTalk about the Online Quiz some of us took. (As in “the answers” and “what did people say?”)\nWe’ll look at Matthew’s unique genealogy. (What the heck is he doing here\, and why?!)\nThen\, we’ll focus in on Matthew 1:18-25. As time allows we will discuss how Matthew’s Christmas Story is different than what we read in the Gospel of Luke – and why.\n\nSomewhere in the midst of all this we’ll take a break.\nFeel free to bring you own Bible if you wish. Wouldn’t it feel great to have that freedom and enjoyment back again? You can\, with our Process Paint and Sip night!  \n“Process  painting” and its cousin\, Intuitive Painting\, use a style of expressive art that focuses on the experience of using color\, form\, composition\, and the properties of  paint and mixed media to build layers on a surface\, without having a pre-exising idea or attachment to what the end product looks like. We create using a few basic principles that leave room for the spontaneous and the playful to emerge.  \n Focusing on process\,  rather than the finished piece\, frees us up to explore and  experiment\, learn and practice the principles of visual art media\, and build our own repetoire of creative skills and approaches – all without being afraid of making a mistake\, or comparing  ourselves to others. Many folks also find this method of painting helps them feel more comfortable and relaxed in the present moment\, not to mention energized and delighted!  \nDuring the evening\, we will: \n~ Gather  for social time & enjoy your choice of beverages \n~ Learn how process- focused painting works\, and do some basic warm-up exercises\, \n~ Enjoy music and free painting time\, with guidance from an experienced fine artist\, \n~ Learn how to talk about our creative experiences\, what we  learned\, and what we appreciate about one another’s work in a way that’s supportive and encouraging.  \nParticipants will go home with one or more finished pieces\, and the knowledge of how to continue a process/intuitive painting practice on their own.
