DESCRIPTION:The City of Florence is excited to announce that we will be hosting the 2026 Community Block Party on Friday\, July 17\, 2026\, from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Historic Old Town Florence. This free event is open to families\, residents\, and visitors of all ages. \nThe 2026 Block Party will be held on Bay Street between Laurel Street and the Siuslaw River Bridge. A free concert will be provided from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. by the band 5 Guys Named Moe. Thank you to Three Rivers Casino Resort for sponsoring the band for the second year. \nThe Block Party also features free BJ’s Ice Cream\, popcorn from City of Florence Staff\, a photobooth\, and fun activities for all ages\, including rock painting\, face painting\, and games\, each sponsored by local community organizations. These partner agencies and service groups will set up throughout the Block Party area. Plus\, Florence Public Works and the Environmental Management Advisory Committee will debut Florence H2O On The Go – a 125-gallon water filling station. Bring your water bottle to the event! \nTo build up to the event\, the City is bringing back the Community Scavenger Hunt! Thanks to sponsor Central Oregon Coast Board of Realtors (COCBR)\, an electronic scavenger hunt will run through the Goosechase platform. SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at Heceta Dunes – Saturday\, July 18 – A Power of Florence Event
DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is proud to be a part of the annual Power of Florence event\, a day where area residents and visitors can volunteer and give back to the Florence community. For this event\, ODRC will be at Heceta Dunes\, one of our “Preserve the Best” locations. This is a location where volunteers can make a difference by removing invasive plants like Scotch broom\, and the native plants and open sand habitat will survive into the future. \nOn Saturday\, July 18 from 10 AM to Noon\, volunteers will remove Scotch broom plants on the flat near the entrance to the dunes\, working east to the tree island. It is a short walk on flat ground until the tree island which is a moderate slope. This is a family event\, children and grandchildren are welcome. Come for as long as you can\, if you need to leave early\, that is fine. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDirections: Take Highway 101 north of Florence and turn left on Heceta Beach Rd. (the road to Driftwood Shores)\, turn right on 4th Ave. and go to the end\, turn right on Joshua Lane and go to the end. Please do not block driveways or mailboxes. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.

DESCRIPTION:City Club of Florence welcomes Health Care for All Oregon as its August 2026 Guest Speaker. \nHealth Care for All Oregon (HCAO): The Universal Health Care Plan for Oregon \nGuest speakers from HCAO Lane County will update the community on the latest from Oregon’s Universal Health Plan Governance Board and the Lane County Chapter of HCAO. \nLearn more about how Oregon became the first state to officially work on a Universal Health Plan with a deadline to submit the plan to the Oregon Legislature by September 2026. \nThe Universal Health Plan is being drafted to make health care access easier and more affordable than private insurance through a centralized agency\, as well as provide vision and dental\, without the pre-authorizations that private insurance uses to deny and delay care. \nThe City Club is a nonpartisan\, civic discussion group that meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 1:30pm in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library. Each month features a different guest speaker\, who answers questions from the audience following their presentation. \nCity Club meetings are free and open to the public. Meetings are later broadcast on KXCR-FM 90.7 community radio. The Siuslaw Public Library does not sponsor the City Club or endorse the views of guest speakers.
