DESCRIPTION:Due to the predicted high winds and rain\, this volunteer event has been cancelled. We hope to reschedule this event for March next year. \n  \nVolunteers are needed to help the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and the Coos Watershed Association remove invasive Scotch broom at the Sandtracks Picnic Area on Saturday\, October 25 from 10AM to Noon. Sandtracks is one of our “Preserve the Best” locations where volunteers can make a difference by removing the invasive plants\, so the native plants and open sand habitat will survive into the future. It has been a few years since Scotch broom has been removed from this location\, so there will be plenty for all. The area where we will be working is flat and close to the parking area. Children and grandchildren are invited\, this is a family-friendly event! \nBring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Dress for the weather\, bring rain gear if there is a threat of rain. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDirections: \nFrom North Bend\, take Hwy. 101 North across the McCullough Memorial Bridge and turn left onto the Jordan Cove/Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.8 miles and keep right to continue on Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.2 miles and turn right onto Horsfall Beach Rd. Go 0.9 miles and turn left into the Sandtracks Picnic Area. \nFrom Reedsport\, take Hwy. 101 South approximately 21 miles and turn right onto the Jordan Cove/Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.8 miles and keep right to continue on Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.2 miles and turn right onto Horsfall Beach Rd. Go 0.9 miles and turn left into the Sandtracks Picnic Area. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place. DESCRIPTION:This is a monthly gathering for our Studio creative community to appreciate\, practice\, and explore approaches/techniques in meditative drawing such as Zentangling\, drawing from observation\, “slow” drawing\, Neurographic arts\, and more. Each session\, we will practice our drawing skills together in a supportive and relaxed environment. Also open to members of the public; beginners welcome! \nLed by a creative arts professional\, at each session\, we will explore a new design\, drawing technique or meditative drawing style. Each assignment will be guaranteed to help you get in the “flow”\, and will help you build new perspectives and skills. DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. DESCRIPTION:FACC’s November meeting features “Help for the Holidays\,” an opportunity for local service providers and organizations to share their holiday plans and events and to reach out to each other and the community for volunteers or other resources to bring holiday help and cheer to area families and individuals. This meeting will feature deadringer “Santa Claus” Lee Bliven II\, who will be coming to PeaceHarbor Peace Health departments and clinics later in the season. He will also discuss Lane County Senior Support Coalition’s Senior Emergency Support Fund.   Working with our local DHS Aging and Disability Resource Connection\, they can provide insurance copayments\, denture or hearing aid repairs\, utility payments to avoid disconnection\, and rent assistence to prevent eviction. \nAll organizations and groups with events are encouraged to attend. Whether you’re able to come or not\, FACC will help share out information about your event. DESCRIPTION:Join Oregon Shores and the Siuslaw Watershed Council for a hands-on workshop where beach debris becomes art with meaning! \nCreate ephemeral\, multidimensional “mini mosaics” using real marine debris collected along the Oregon Coast. The session begins with an introduction to how king tides and marine debris shape our shoreline\, followed by a guided discussion on the complex role plastics play in our lives. \nParticipants will then explore bins of cleaned\, color-sorted debris and choose pieces that spark their curiosity—imagining where each item came from or what it once was. Using black foam board as a backdrop\, everyone will design a nature-inspired scene that holds personal significance. \nWhen the artworks are complete\, we’ll take a short “gallery walk” to appreciate one another’s creations before returning all materials to their bins. Together\, we’ll close with a conversation about what we discovered\, how our perspectives may have shifted\, and creative ways we can reduce plastic pollution in our communities. \n  \nThis workshop is free- but space is limited!
