SUMMARY:Three Mile Prairie Dunes Scotch Broom Removal
DESCRIPTION:Come join the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Lane County Parks on Saturday\, June 22 from 10 a.m. to noon to remove invasive Scotch broom and small trees from the Three Mile Prairie Dunes County Park in Florence\, OR. \nThe Three Mile Prairie Dunes site provides good habitat for dunes-adapted native plants and wildlife\, but is threatened by invasive weeds and vegetation. It is located north of Florence Golf Links and west of Hwy 101 at Fred Meyer. It is a 15 minute walk from the northwest corner of the Fred Meyer parking lot to the work site over some sand and fairly level ground. This is a family event\, so children and friendly dogs on leash are welcome. \nBring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have a limited supply of tools you can borrow. \nDirections: From the intersection of Hwys 126 and 101 in Florence\, drive north 2.3 miles and turn west into the Fred Meyer parking lot at the Fred Meyer gas station. Drive past the gas pumps and go to the northwest corner of the parking lot towards the dunes in the back. We will work at a gentle pace\, enjoy the forest landscape\, and take some time for lunch. There is a restroom at the trailhead. \nHiking information: \nWe will be hiking along the sutton creeek trail. We will go about 1-2 miles working and brushing the trail as we go. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. The location provides a multitude of great vantage\npoints for spectators with the colorful 30-minute program reflecting off the river. \nFlorence Habitat for Humanity and the City of Florence are joining together again to host old-fashioned 4th of July\nfun for locals and visitors alike. DESCRIPTION:Project Information: \nWe will be doing some basic tread maintenance\, using grubbers\, tread tools\, and shovels to restore the surface of the trail. We will work at a gentle pace\, enjoy the forest landscape \, and take some time for lunch. \nHiking information: \nWe will meet at the Neptune State Park Scenic Viewpoint north parking lot before we cross the highway to get on the trail. We will hike to our worksite\, about 1/4 to 1/2 mile in. There are some ups and downs along this trail\, about 50 feet of elevatain gain. There is no restroom at the trailhead. Closest are a 1/4 north at the Cape Pereptua Visitor Center or 1/4 south at the Neptune South parking lot. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety.
