The forum\, to be held in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m.\, will hear from representatives from the health fields\, education\, civic and community groups\, and open and affirming faith communities. The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be available. \nPFLAG\, which has been active in Florence since 2011\, is a member of the Florence Area Community Coalition and the Chamber of Commerce. Its supporters have marched in the Rhody Parade for a dozen years and in the Yachats La-de-da Parade with PFLAG-Oregon Central Coast of Newport for six years. \nPFLAG-Florence is an affiliate of a national organization with more than 350 chapters and 200\,000 members and supporters across the United States. PFLAG is the country’s largest organization working to create a caring\, just\, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

DESCRIPTION:Learn more about the science and studies of Microplastics and what you can do to reduce your plastic footprint! Come attend the meeting of the City of Florence Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) on Wednesday\, April 9th at 3 pm to hear Dr. Susanne Brander discuss the latest regarding microplastics in the Pacific Northwest. Dr Brander received a Ph.D. in Toxicology and Pharmacology from UC Davis in 2011. She is an Associate Professor in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University and also currently serves as a Senior Scientist for the EHS Action Science Initiative. Her focus is on the occurrence and biological effects of stressors\, such as micro and nanoplastics\, endocrine disrupting compounds\, and other emerging contaminants\, and climate change\, on aquatic and terrestrial organisms.

SUMMARY:Environmental Management Advisory Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Sustaining and improving the City’s livability and quality of life is Goal 2 of the City of Florence work plan. The Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) realizes Goal 2 by developing local strategies and advising the City Council on protecting Florence’s health and environment and conserving energy and natural resources. They are responsible for insuring compliance with the City’s solid waste code (FCC 9-4)\, and DEQ’s recycling education rules (OAR 340-090-0030 & 0040) and they serve as the City’s Tree Board.  \nEMAC consists of 5 to 11 members\, of which the majority must be residents of the City and includes additional ex-officio non-voting members. SUMMARY:WLECN Monthly Neighborhood Emergency Radio Check-in
DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. While you can listen in on any GMRS radio on channel 22\, you must have a radio that can accept programming of send/receive offsets and tones (CH 22R (462.725MHz +5MHz offset  186.2Hz Tone).  Please contact Jay Guettler @ westlaneecn@gmail.com for more information or just join us on the radio at the listed time and date.

Sweet Creek Falls work will be an onoging project with the Siuslaw Watershed Council doing a variety of different tread work to improve the condition of the trail. We will work at a gentle pace\, enjoy the forest landscape\, and take some time for lunch. \nHiking information: \nWe will meet at the Sweet Creek Falls Trailhead and hike in about 1/3 to a 1/2 mile into the worksite. We will be walking over rocky terrian\, bridges\, and catwalks. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons\, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early. \nEvent details: \nDetailed event information\, including directions to the meeting location\, will be provided to registrants via email 48 hours prior to the event. Volunteers are needed to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom from one of our “Protect the Best” sites. This is a family event\, children and grandchildren are invited to attend and help! \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have a limited supply of tools you can borrow. Dress for the weather\, bring rain gear if showers are predicted. If a storm is predicted\, we may cancel. Check our Facebook page\, Save Oregon Dunes\, the morning of the event if the weather is questionable. \nDirections: Take Highway 101 north of Florence and turn left on Heceta Beach Rd.\, turn right on 4th Ave. and go to the end\, turn right on Joshua Lane and go to the end.
