SUMMARY:C.R.O.W. presents Seussical
DESCRIPTION:Seussical is a fantastical\, magical\, musical extravaganza! \nC.R.O.W. will present 6 Performances at the Florence Events Center! \nFriday\, April 17th at 7 pm\nSaturday\, April 18th at 7 pm\nSunday\, April 19th at 2 pm\nFriday\, April 24th at 7 pm\nSaturday\, April 25th at 7 pm\nSunday\, April 26th at 2 pm \nTickets are on sale now through the Florence Event Center Box Office. 541-997-1994 or www.eventcenter.org. \nABOUT THE SHOW: \nTony winners\, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff\, My Favorite Year\, Once on This Island\, Ragtime)\, have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters\, including Horton the Elephant\, The Cat in the Hat\, Gertrude McFuzz\, lazy Mayzie and a child with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos. \nThe Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton\, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos\, including Jojo\, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers\, but he must guard an abandoned egg\, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule\, danger\, kidnapping and a trial\, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. \nUltimately\, the powers of friendship\, loyalty\, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. The central theme of the show is about following your heart\, and always being true to your convictions. \nFor more information\, visit www.crowkids.com/seussical

SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at BLM’s 80-acre parcel on Trans Pacific Parkway – Saturday\, April 25
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Earth Day by volunteering with the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Coos Watershed Association to remove invasive Scotch broom and European beach grass at the BLM’s 80-acre parcel on Trans Pacific Parkway on Saturday\, April 25 from 10 AM to Noon. We will be working on a moderate\, sandy slope about 1/10 of a mile from the road. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. The Scotch broom plants are generally small\, so this will be a good opportunity for families to work together helping out the Oregon dunes! \nAs you know\, the weather on the Oregon coast can be quite varied. One day it can be nice and sunny\, which we are hoping for on the 25th\, the next day it can be stormy. Dress for the weather! If it is sunny or misting\, we will be working\, if it is a storm\, we will cancel. We will make the best call that we can Friday afternoon\, the 24th. Check back at our webpage\, www.SaveOregonDunes.org/events/ or our Facebook page\, Save The Oregon Dunes\, for updates. \nDirections: \nFrom Florence\, Oregon\, take Hwy 101 south\, 45 miles. Turn right onto Trans Pacific Parkway and go approximately 1.75 miles (you will go past both Horsfall Beach Rd. and Jordan Cove Rd.) There is a turnout on the south side of the road next to the railroad tracks where you can park. If that area fills up\, there is a smaller turnout on the north side of the road. The shoulder of the road is wide in this area\, so there is additional parking on the shoulder if the turnouts fill up. If you would like to carpool and either need a ride or riders\, email info@saveoregondunes.org and we will work to line up carpooling for those interested. \nFrom North Bend\, Oregon\, take Hwy 101 north\, passing over the McCullough Memorial Bridge. Turn left onto Trans Pacific Parkway and go approximately 1.75 miles (you will go past both Horsfall Beach Rd. and Jordan Cove Rd.) There is a turnout on the south side of the road next to the railroad tracks where you can park. If that area fills up\, there is a smaller turnout on the north side of the road. The shoulder of the road is wide in this area\, so there is additional parking on the shoulder if the turnouts fill up. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative’s mission is to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand\, unique habitats\, and dunes processes that benefit the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.

SUMMARY:Two for One Day! Celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day 2026\, Florence\, Oregon
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Day with a community cleanup event in the City of Florence. The City’s Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) is inviting volunteers to help remove ivy\, scotch broom\, and other invasive plants from our walking trails\, roadways\, and parks or assist with trail cleanup activities. The event is scheduled for Saturday April 25th. \nInvasive plants are threatening the natural environment of our local coastal areas. These plants do not belong here and often spread aggressively\, crowding out native vegetation. The resulting loss of natives results in lower quality habitat for birds\, bees\, deer\, and other animals and ivy smothers our trees\, blocking light and competing for water and nutrients. What better way to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day than to be working outside and helping protect our natural areas? \nVolunteers will meet at the new Estuary Trail parking lot where we will form teams to work at different locations within or near the city. Depending on the worksite\, access may require navigating sloped areas\, gravel\, uneven surfaces\, and exposed tree roots. At least one worksite will be accessible to all. Safety information and information on best practices for removing ivy\, scotch broom\, and other invasives will be provided.

SUMMARY:Guest Artist Workshop: Air Dry Clay Masks
DESCRIPTION:Get hands-on with this fun workshop featuring a local guest artist – perfect for all skill levels! \nIn this workshop\, you will learn how to make your own decorative mask using quick drying clay\, led by master artist and instructor Ame (“Ay-mee”) Beard. \nAme will teach you how to use a variety of different mediums\, including air dry clay\, to create a beautiful mask inspired by an Expressive Art style. What do we show to others vs. what’s on the inside? What fantastical\, whimsical or controversial figure can you “wear” when you put on your mask? Unleash your creativity\, and be guided to successfully craft whatever comes to mind. Masks can be created to wear as part of a costume\, or as an art piece to display. \nClass notes: \nThis class will include the construction of the mask\, but not the finish layer. Potential finishes will be discussed during the class. You will be able to take your piece with you to work on at home\, or make use of drop in studio time during our Open Gallery hours (Thurs-Sun 10am to 5pm) to complete your piece. \nSome of the products do have a strong smell so be aware of that when signing up for the class. \nAll supplies are included; class is suitable for all skill levels\, ages 12 thru adult.
