SUMMARY:WLECN Monthly Neighborhood Emergency Radio Check-in
DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. While you can listen in on any GMRS radio on channel 22\, you must have a radio that can accept programming of send/receive offsets and tones (CH 22R (462.725MHz +5MHz offset  186.2Hz Tone).  Please contact Jay Guettler @ westlaneecn@gmail.com for more information or just join us on the radio at the listed time and date.

Sweet Creek Falls work will be an onoging project with the Siuslaw Watershed Council doing a variety of different tread work to improve the condition of the trail. We will work at a gentle pace\, enjoy the forest landscape\, and take some time for lunch. \nHiking information: \nWe will meet at the Sweet Creek Falls Trailhead and hike in about 1/3 to a 1/2 mile into the worksite. We will be walking over rocky terrian\, bridges\, and catwalks. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons\, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early. \nEvent details: \nDetailed event information\, including directions to the meeting location\, will be provided to registrants via email 48 hours prior to the event. Volunteers are needed to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom from one of our “Protect the Best” sites. This is a family event\, children and grandchildren are invited to attend and help! \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have a limited supply of tools you can borrow. Dress for the weather\, bring rain gear if showers are predicted. If a storm is predicted\, we may cancel. Check our Facebook page\, Save Oregon Dunes\, the morning of the event if the weather is questionable. \nDirections: Take Highway 101 north of Florence and turn left on Heceta Beach Rd.\, turn right on 4th Ave. and go to the end\, turn right on Joshua Lane and go to the end. Please do not block driveways or mailboxes. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.

The weekend culminates in a joint worship service on March 30.\nThe Presbyterian Community Church\, one of the event’s sponsors\, is located at 3996 N Hwy 101. The other church sponsors include Florence United Methodist\, New Life Lutheran\, St. Andrew’s Episcopal\, and Saint Mary\, Our Lady of the Dunes\, Catholic Church.\nThe storytelling workshop begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday\, March 29. With a break for lunch served at the church\, the workshop will resume at 1:00 p.m. and conclude at 2:30. The sessions\, according to Dr. Yocum\, will be based on the model of Jesus as Storyteller\, and will “practice storytelling as a means of creating resilience as we imagine our futures together. We will focus on how distinctive faith traditions in Florence have served our community over time.”\nA joint worship service\, with Rev. Deborah Anderson of Florence United Methodist Church preaching\, will be held the following day\, Sunday\, March 30\, at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian church. A combined choir of singers from the participating churches and the community at large will be led by Sylvia Hartman of the Presbyterian Community Church and Laura Merz of St. Andrew’s Episcopal.\nThe events are free and the public is welcome.

We will also be brushing (clearing back the vegetation). We will work at a gentle pace\, enjoy the forest landscape\, and take some time for lunch. \nHiking information: \nWe will be meeting at the Alder Dunes Campground and hiking as a group along the lake loop trail. The hike is about 1 -2 miles total with minimal ups and downs. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. This includes sharing and distributing\, heirloom seeds\, heritage fruits\, and developing landraces. We will also hope to offer a selection of fruit tree scions to root or graft.
