DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. While you can listen in on any GMRS radio on channel 22\, you must have a radio that can accept programming of send/receive offsets and tones (CH 22R (462.725MHz +5MHz offset  186.2Hz Tone).  Please contact Jay Guettler @ westlaneecn@gmail.com for more information or just join us on the radio at the listed time and date.

DESCRIPTION:A weekly practice group focusing on the meditative benefits of drawing and mixed media arts. \nStudies in the Creative Arts Therapies have shown that drawing\, especially when incorporated as part of a regular meditative practice\, can help promote relaxation\, mindful presence\, beneficial “flow” states\, and a sense of well being. \nIn this weekly practice group\, we will learn and share a variety of drawing techniques that are especially good for helping with creating a meditative state. Some areas we have explored\, but are not limited to\, included: \nNeurographic art\nTouch drawing\nBlind contour drawing\n“slow” drawing\nZentangle and Zen Doodling\ndrawing from still life\nReverse water color pages\nadding shading and color to pen and ink drawings \nSessions are facilitated by an experienced artist\, and all necessary tools and materials are provided. You are welcome to bring your own favorite materials as desired. No prior experience is necessary for Mindful Drawing sessions\, just your sense of curiosity and creativity!

DESCRIPTION:A weekly practice group focusing on the meditative benefits of drawing and mixed media arts. \nStudies in the Creative Arts Therapies have shown that drawing\, especially when incorporated as part of a regular meditative practice\, can help promote relaxation\, mindful presence\, beneficial “flow” states\, and a sense of well being. \nIn this weekly practice group\, we will learn and share a variety of drawing techniques that are especially good for helping with creating a meditative state. Some areas we have explored\, but are not limited to\, included: \nNeurographic art\nTouch drawing\nBlind contour drawing\n“slow” drawing\nZentangle and Zen Doodling\ndrawing from still life\nReverse water color pages\nadding shading and color to pen and ink drawings \nSessions are facilitated by an experienced artist\, and all necessary tools and materials are provided. You are welcome to bring your own favorite materials as desired. No prior experience is necessary for Mindful Drawing sessions\, just your sense of curiosity and creativity!

DESCRIPTION:This is a monthly gathering for our Studio creative community to appreciate\, practice\, and explore approaches/techniques in meditative drawing such as Zentangling\, drawing from observation\, “slow” drawing\, Neurographic arts\, and more. Each session\, we will practice our drawing skills together in a supportive and relaxed environment. Also open to members of the public; beginners welcome! \nLed by a creative arts professional\, at each session\, we will explore a new design\, drawing technique or meditative drawing style. Each assignment will be guaranteed to help you get in the “flow”\, and will help you build new perspectives and skills. If you like\, you can also use the time to work on a meditative drawing project of your own\, share with the group\, trade tips and tricks\, and get technical guidance and support from one another and the group leader. \nYou’re welcome to bring your own drawing supplies and reference material to practice with; We will have extra tools and materials on hand as needed. \nDrawing supplies may also be purchased in advance from Beaux Arts art supply store in Florence\, located just off Hwy. 101 in the Coastal Fitness shopping plaza. \nYou may pre-register for this event\, or pay at the desk at time of session. SUMMARY:Two for One Day! Celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day 2026\, Florence\, Oregon
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Day with a community cleanup event in the City of Florence. The City’s Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) is inviting volunteers to help remove ivy\, scotch broom\, and other invasive plants from our walking trails\, roadways\, and parks or assist with trail cleanup activities. The event is scheduled for Saturday April 25th.   \nInvasive plants are threatening the natural environment of our local coastal areas. These plants do not belong here and often spread aggressively\, crowding out native vegetation. The resulting loss of natives results in lower quality habitat for birds\, bees\, deer\, and other animals and ivy smothers our trees\, blocking light and competing for water and nutrients. What better way to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day than to be working outside and helping protect our natural areas? \nVolunteers will meet at the new Estuary Trail parking lot where we will form teams to work at different locations within or near the city. Depending on the worksite\, access may require navigating sloped areas\, gravel\, uneven surfaces\, and exposed tree roots. At least one worksite will be accessible to all. Safety information and information on best practices for removing ivy\, scotch broom\, and other invasives will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Earth Day by volunteering with the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Coos Watershed Association to remove invasive Scotch broom and European beach grass at the BLM’s 80-acre parcel on Trans Pacific Parkway on Saturday\, April 25 from 10 AM to Noon. We will be working on a moderate\, sandy slope about 1/10 of a mile from the road. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. The Scotch broom plants are generally small\, so this will be a good opportunity for families to work together helping out the Oregon dunes! \nAs you know\, the weather on the Oregon coast can be quite varied. One day it can be nice and sunny\, which we are hoping for on the 25th\, the next day it can be stormy. Dress for the weather! If it is sunny or misting\, we will be working\, if it is a storm\, we will cancel. We will make the best call that we can Friday afternoon\, the 24th. Check back at our webpage\, www.SaveOregonDunes.org/events/ or our Facebook page\, Save The Oregon Dunes\, for updates. \nDirections: \nFrom Florence\, Oregon\, take Hwy 101 south\, 45 miles. Turn right onto Trans Pacific Parkway and go approximately 1.75 miles (you will go past both Horsfall Beach Rd. and Jordan Cove Rd.) There is a turnout on the south side of the road next to the railroad tracks where you can park. If that area fills up\, there is a smaller turnout on the north side of the road. The shoulder of the road is wide in this area\, so there is additional parking on the shoulder if the turnouts fill up.
