SUMMARY:Process Paint and Sip
DESCRIPTION:INCLUDES: Hosted bar featuring locally crafted wine\, beers and ciders; light refreshments\, coffee/tea/water\, and all materials and instruction. Please remember to bring your ID card to be served alcohol. \nThink back to your childhood\, and the excitement of painting and drawing as a way of learning how to use materials\, and discovering all the things you could do with them. Wouldn’t it feel great to have that freedom and enjoyment back again? You can\, with our Process Paint and Sip night! \n“Process painting” and its cousin\, Intuitive Painting\, use a style of expressive art that focuses on the experience of using color\, form\, composition\, and the properties of paint and mixed media to build layers on a surface\, without having a pre-exising idea or attachment to what the end product looks like. We create using a few basic principles that leave room for the spontaneous and the playful to emerge. \n Focusing on process\, rather than the finished piece\, frees us up to explore and experiment\, learn and practice the principles of visual art media\, and build our own repetoire of creative skills and approaches – all without being afraid of making a mistake\, or comparing ourselves to others. Many folks also find this method of painting helps them feel more comfortable and relaxed in the present moment\, not to mention energized and delighted! \nDuring the evening\, we will: \n~ Gather for social time & enjoy your choice of beverages \n~ Learn how process- focused painting works\, and do some basic warm-up exercises\, \n~ Enjoy music and free painting time\, with guidance from an experienced fine artist\, \n~ Learn how to talk about our creative experiences\, what we learned\, and what we appreciate about one another’s work in a way that’s supportive and encouraging. \nParticipants will go home with one or more finished pieces\, and the knowledge of how to continue a process/intuitive painting practice on their own. We also encourage you to register ahead for future Paint & Sip sessions\, so you can continue to get support in developing your creative process.

SUMMARY:PFLAG Meeting
DESCRIPTION:PFLAG looks at Lane County LGBTQ+ Data\nDid you know that Oregon was the US state with the highest proportion of LGBTQ+ people in its population or that about one-quarter of Lane County 6th\, 8th\, and 11th graders identify as LGBTQ+? These and more than two dozen datapoints collected by the Lane County Department of Health will be presented Monday\, April 13\, at PFLAG’s monthly meeting\, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Florence United Methodist Church.\nBroad understanding of the region’s demographics helps non-profits like PFLAG navigate and address issues affecting their families\, friends and themselves. Be prepared to take home a wealth of information about this area from this meeting.\nAs with all PFLAG events\, the meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available. If you haven’t attended PFLAG in a while\, consider dropping by\, meeting with the new leadership team\, and hearing about the organization’s initiatives for this year and next. If you cannot attend the meeting\, but are interested in programming support\, visit the PFLAG Florence website at pflagflorenceoregon.org and hit the donate button.\nFlorence United Methodist Church is located at the corner of 2nd and Kingwood Streets\, one block west of Highway 101. PFLAG Florence is one of more than 400 chapters in the largest national organization serving the LGBTQ+ community and those who love them.

SUMMARY:C.R.O.W. presents Seussical
DESCRIPTION:Seussical is a fantastical\, magical\, musical extravaganza! \nC.R.O.W. will present 6 Performances at the Florence Events Center! \nFriday\, April 17th at 7 pm\nSaturday\, April 18th at 7 pm\nSunday\, April 19th at 2 pm\nFriday\, April 24th at 7 pm\nSaturday\, April 25th at 7 pm\nSunday\, April 26th at 2 pm \nTickets are on sale now through the Florence Event Center Box Office. 541-997-1994 or www.eventcenter.org. \nABOUT THE SHOW: \nTony winners\, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff\, My Favorite Year\, Once on This Island\, Ragtime)\, have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters\, including Horton the Elephant\, The Cat in the Hat\, Gertrude McFuzz\, lazy Mayzie and a child with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos. \nThe Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton\, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos\, including Jojo\, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers\, but he must guard an abandoned egg\, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule\, danger\, kidnapping and a trial\, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. \nUltimately\, the powers of friendship\, loyalty\, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. The central theme of the show is about following your heart\, and always being true to your convictions. \nFor more information\, visit www.crowkids.com/seussical

SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at BLM’s 80-acre parcel on Trans Pacific Parkway – Saturday\, April 25
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Earth Day by volunteering with the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Coos Watershed Association to remove invasive Scotch broom and European beach grass at the BLM’s 80-acre parcel on Trans Pacific Parkway on Saturday\, April 25 from 10 AM to Noon. We will be working on a moderate\, sandy slope about 1/10 of a mile from the road. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. The Scotch broom plants are generally small\, so this will be a good opportunity for families to work together helping out the Oregon dunes! \nAs you know\, the weather on the Oregon coast can be quite varied. One day it can be nice and sunny\, which we are hoping for on the 25th\, the next day it can be stormy. Dress for the weather! If it is sunny or misting\, we will be working\, if it is a storm\, we will cancel. We will make the best call that we can Friday afternoon\, the 24th. Check back at our webpage\, www.SaveOregonDunes.org/events/ or our Facebook page\, Save The Oregon Dunes\, for updates. \nDirections: \nFrom Florence\, Oregon\, take Hwy 101 south\, 45 miles. Turn right onto Trans Pacific Parkway and go approximately 1.75 miles (you will go past both Horsfall Beach Rd. and Jordan Cove Rd.) There is a turnout on the south side of the road next to the railroad tracks where you can park. If that area fills up\, there is a smaller turnout on the north side of the road. The shoulder of the road is wide in this area\, so there is additional parking on the shoulder if the turnouts fill up. If you would like to carpool and either need a ride or riders\, email info@saveoregondunes.org and we will work to line up carpooling for those interested. \nFrom North Bend\, Oregon\, take Hwy 101 north\, passing over the McCullough Memorial Bridge. Turn left onto Trans Pacific Parkway and go approximately 1.75 miles (you will go past both Horsfall Beach Rd. and Jordan Cove Rd.) There is a turnout on the south side of the road next to the railroad tracks where you can park. If that area fills up\, there is a smaller turnout on the north side of the road. The shoulder of the road is wide in this area\, so there is additional parking on the shoulder if the turnouts fill up. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative’s mission is to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand\, unique habitats\, and dunes processes that benefit the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.

SUMMARY:Two for One Day! Celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day 2026\, Florence\, Oregon
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Day with a community cleanup event in the City of Florence. The City’s Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) is inviting volunteers to help remove ivy\, scotch broom\, and other invasive plants from our walking trails\, roadways\, and parks or assist with trail cleanup activities. The event is scheduled for Saturday April 25th. \nInvasive plants are threatening the natural environment of our local coastal areas. These plants do not belong here and often spread aggressively\, crowding out native vegetation. The resulting loss of natives results in lower quality habitat for birds\, bees\, deer\, and other animals and ivy smothers our trees\, blocking light and competing for water and nutrients. What better way to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day than to be working outside and helping protect our natural areas? \nVolunteers will meet at the new Estuary Trail parking lot where we will form teams to work at different locations within or near the city. Depending on the worksite\, access may require navigating sloped areas\, gravel\, uneven surfaces\, and exposed tree roots. At least one worksite will be accessible to all. Safety information and information on best practices for removing ivy\, scotch broom\, and other invasives will be provided.
