Where should you evacuate during a nearby forest fire? How do you prepare for an unexpected emergency at your home? How would you help a loved one with a serious injury? What type of emergency materials do you need in case of evacuation?  \nGet your questions answered from a host of professionals in the all-day booth area\, with experts in the field helping you prepare to face a crisis with confidence. Special seminars include “Texas 4th of July Flash Floods – Lessons Learned for the Oregon Coast”\, Stop the Bleed course\, and Water Purification course throughout the day.  \nSpeak directly with the emergency personnel who will be helping you through a Siuslaw emergency\, with organizations including the City of Florence\, the U.S. Coast Guard\, Oregon Office of Resilience Emergency Management. \nDo you have a food plan during a disaster? DESCRIPTION:Getting Loud at the Library \nOnce upon a time\, you may have heard a fairytale: that libraries are quiet places where everyone\, including the staff\, spend their days silently reading. But that was always just a story. As spaces where anyone can walk through the door to find a book and pursue an education\, develop early literacy skills\, log onto a computer\, meet with their neighbors\, or just sit and be\, public libraries in America have always been revolutionary\, and seldom quiet. On October 9\, Siuslaw Public Library Director Meg Spencer will get loud at the City Club of Florence about how the library is helping local residents come together to read and learn. You’ll also learn how that work may be impacted by reduced funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Oregon. This will also be an opportunity to discuss the freedom to read\, and why American democracy\, and public libraries\, are unique in protecting the rights of citizens to make their own choices about what they access at their local library.   \nThis program is sponsored by the City Club of Florence\, which is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Siuslaw Public Library District.

SUMMARY:Environmental Management Advisory Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Sustaining and improving the City’s livability and quality of life is Goal 2 of the City of Florence work plan. The Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) realizes Goal 2 by developing local strategies and advising the City Council on protecting Florence’s health and environment and conserving energy and natural resources. They are responsible for insuring compliance with the City’s solid waste code (FCC 9-4)\, and DEQ’s recycling education rules (OAR 340-090-0030 & 0040) and they serve as the City’s Tree Board.  \nEMAC consists of 5 to 11 members\, of which the majority must be residents of the City and includes additional ex-officio non-voting members. DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. While you can listen in on any GMRS radio on channel 22\, you must have a radio that can accept programming of send/receive offsets and tones (CH 22R (462.725MHz +5MHz offset  186.2Hz Tone).  Please contact Jay Guettler @ westlaneecn@gmail.com for more information or just join us on the radio at the listed time and date.

SUMMARY:FACC's October 1 meeting features Trauma Informed Program (TIP) of Lane County
DESCRIPTION:The October 1\, 2025 regular monthly meeting of FACC features Bridget Byfield\, Program Director of the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) of Lane County\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that seeks to ensure that those who are emotionally traumatized in emergency situations receive the immediate assistance they need. Trained TIP volunteers are not emergency responders like Western Lane Fire and EMS Authority or Western Lane Crisis Response professionals but rather they may be called to assist those professionals. TIP Volunteers are called by law enforcement\, fire and hospital personnel to assist victims\, families\, friends\, witnesses and bystanders by providing temporary emotional support and practical resources until the survivors are able to depend on family\, friends\, neighbors\, and others. \nBridget served as a volunteer and TIP team leader for eight years in Multnomah County and moved to Lane County in 2006 to continue child welfare work with the Department of Human Services from which she retired in 2020 having been supervisor of a unit serving youth and families with behavioral and mental health challenges. Bridget holds a strong belief in community collaboration. She chaired the Work Level Group of Lane County Systems of Care\, formally the “4C’s.” She was instrumental in bringing the Crossover Youth program to the Division of Youth Services and participates in many community projects. Some Florence residents are already TIP volunteers. Bridget will explain what becoming a TIP volunteer entails \nFACC meetings are free and open to the public. Light refreshments are served. FACC is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) membership organization that has been working to help Western Lane communities and people for over 25 years. Its mission is to improve the quality of life in Western Lane County through partnerships\, networking\, volunteerism\, community involvement\, education and awareness. Annual dues are $50 for agencies and organizations and $25 for individuals.
