DESCRIPTION:Join the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Lane County Parks to remove invasive Scotch broom at the North Jetty of the Siuslaw River Park on Saturday\, March 28 from 10 AM to Noon. We will be working on an area that is very close to the parking area on flat\, sandy slopes and/or along the road near the parking area. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nAs you know\, the weather on the Oregon coast can be quite varied. One day it can be nice and sunny\, which we are hoping for on the 28th\, the next day it can be stormy. Dress for the weather! If it is sunny or misting\, we will be working\, if it is a storm\, we will cancel. We will make the best call that we can Friday afternoon\, the 27th. DESCRIPTION:This is a monthly gathering for our Studio creative community to appreciate\, practice\, and explore approaches/techniques in meditative drawing such as Zentangling\, drawing from observation\, “slow” drawing\, Neurographic arts\, and more. Each session\, we will practice our drawing skills together in a supportive and relaxed environment. Also open to members of the public; beginners welcome! \nLed by a creative arts professional\, at each session\, we will explore a new design\, drawing technique or meditative drawing style. Each assignment will be guaranteed to help you get in the “flow”\, and will help you build new perspectives and skills. DESCRIPTION:FLORENCE – The community is invited to celebrate the past – and the future – at the Florence First Citizen & Future First Citizen Luncheon on Tuesday\, March 31\, 2026\, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Florence Events Center\, 715 Quince St. \nSince 1967\, the Florence First Citizen has recognized the achievements of Florence community members and Siuslaw High School students who have made Florence a safer\, kinder\, and more connected community. Their work has created and sustained entities such as the Siuslaw Public Library\, PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center\, the Florence Events Center\, Lane Community College Florence Center\, the Power of Florence Day of Service\, the Kiwanis Flag Program – as continuing the work of service organizations such as Rotary\, Kiwanis\, Soroptimists\, Delta Gamma\, P.E.O.\, Elks\, and many others. \nThis year’s Legacy of Leadership event honors five First Citizen nominees for their lasting impacts through 2025 as well as the Future First Citizen nominees from Siuslaw High School for 2025. \nThe First Citizen Nominees are: \n\nDale Edwards\nGayle Sisson\nSally Wantz\nMike Webb\nGreg Wood\n\nThe Future First Citizen Nominees are: \n\nNyx Harklerode\nAdylin Holbrook\nDanin Lacouture\nCamden Linton\nJacob Mann\n\nCongratulations to the nominees! \nThe First Citizens Committee received twice the usual number of nominations this year in both categories; the five top scoring finalists were then submitted to the judging panel. Judging is an important honor undertaken by past First Citizens. The winners will be announced during the March 31 event. \nTickets to the Florence First Citizen Legacy Luncheon are now on sale through The Good Deed Project. The ticket price of $30 includes lunch and the Awards Ceremony. The event will recognize past First Citizens and honor the inspiring stories of this year’s nominees. Additionally\, full tables of 8 are available for $300\, which includes sponsoring a meal of a First Citizen nominee.

DESCRIPTION:  \nYou’re Invited! \nTake a Fresh Look at Youth Art!  \nGala Reception\, April 30th\, 2026: An Artists Reception and Awards Ceremony is planned for April 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM\, with awards announced at 6:00 PM. This all-ages event is free and open to the public\, and visitors will have plenty of time to view the art\, enjoy refreshments\, chat with the artists\, and perhaps purchase one of their works.  \nProceeds from all art sales go directly to the Youth Artists.  \nInfo about the show: \nThe Gallery Committee of Florence Arts\, Culture & Entertainment (FACE)\, is thrilled to announce the 2026 Fresh Impressions Youth Art Exhibition is now open for viewing!  \nThis annual exhibition is a Florence favorite\, showcasing the incredible artistic skills of students at Siuslaw Middle and High Schools as well as area homeschool students.  \nShow Dates: April 1st to May 25th\, 2026. Make it a point to visit the FEC during business hours (8:30 AM – 5:00 PM\, weekdays) to view this exciting show with over 100 works on display. Galleries One and Five open to the public and admittance is free. Due to private events held at the FEC\, some locations may be temporarily closed to the public. Apologies for any inconvenience. \nFresh Impressions is a wonderful opportunity to embrace\, enrich\, and foster the talents of young artists in the Siuslaw Region. In addition to showcasing their artwork\, both the show and reception encourage them to excel at their studies\, learn what it takes to prepare artwork for a public gallery show\, and discover that — yes — our community really does care about the arts.  \nShow production is supported by art teachers Lauren Suveges (Siuslaw High School) and Christina Ory (Siuslaw Middle School) who have been instrumental in helping students provide art for this exhibit. DESCRIPTION:Yes\, there is such a thing as a free lunch.  The Florence Methodist church has been providing a free lunch to anyone who wishes to come every Tuesday and Thursday for over 30 years.  Come enjoy a fresh-cooked meal in our dining room.  Lunch is served from 11:30 to 12:30 every Tuesday and Thursday.  We are located at 333 Kingwood St. in the Florence United Methodist Church (the yellow church).  Everyone is invited.  Come and bring a friend. \n(Note:  Lunch is served 11:30-12:30. DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. While you can listen in on any GMRS radio on channel 22\, you must have a radio that can accept programming of send/receive offsets and tones (CH 22R (462.725MHz +5MHz offset  186.2Hz Tone).  Please contact Jay Guettler @ westlaneecn@gmail.com for more information or just join us on the radio at the listed time and date.
