This month’s donation partner is Oregon Coast Humane Society\, featuring discounts at their thrift shop on Bay Street\, plus in person visits with the OCHS kitties at various Old Town locations\, including Serene Abundance Studio Space’s “Paint with Cats” drop in activity.  \nLook for “First Friday” window signs at your favorite Old Town businesses! These locations will have walking maps available to help you plan your trip\, and learn what specials or discounts each location will be offering.  \nFirst Fridays are free and all ages\, with parental or guardian supervision. DESCRIPTION:A weekly practice group focusing on the meditative benefits of drawing and mixed media arts. \nStudies in the Creative Arts Therapies have shown that drawing\, especially when incorporated as part of a regular meditative practice\, can help promote relaxation\, mindful presence\, beneficial “flow” states\, and a sense of well being. \nIn this weekly practice group\, we will learn and share a variety of drawing techniques that are especially good for helping with creating a meditative state. Some areas we have explored\, but are not limited to\, included: \nNeurographic art\nTouch drawing\nBlind contour drawing\n“slow” drawing\nZentangle and Zen Doodling\ndrawing from still life\nReverse water color pages\nadding shading and color to pen and ink drawings \nSessions are facilitated by an experienced artist\, and all necessary tools and materials are provided. You are welcome to bring your own favorite materials as desired. No prior experience is necessary for Mindful Drawing sessions\, just your sense of curiosity and creativity!

DESCRIPTION:Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative\, Lane County Parks\, McKenzie River Trust\, and Friends of Three Mile Prairie are co-hosting a volunteer event on Saturday\, August 29 from 10 AM to Noon at Three Mile Prairie County Park in Florence\, OR.  Volunteers are needed to protect the sand dune habitat and its native plants and animals by removing invasive Scotch broom and small trees. \nThree Mile Prairie is located north of Florence Golf Links and west of Highway 101 at Fred Meyer. It is a 15-minute walk from the northwest corner of the Fred Meyer parking lot to the work site over some sand and fairly level ground. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDirections: From the intersection of Highways 126 and 101 in Florence\, drive north 2.3 miles and turn west into the Fred Meyer parking lot at the Fred Meyer gas station. Drive past the gas pumps and go to the northwest corner of the parking lot towards the dunes in the back. Event leaders will meet you there. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.
