DESCRIPTION:As part of Power of Florence\, the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is sponsoring a Scotch broom removal event at Heceta Dunes on Saturday\, July 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom from one of our “Protect the Best” sites. This is a family event\, so children and friendly dogs on leash are welcome. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, snacks\, and sunscreen. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have a limited supply of tools you can borrow. \nDirections: Take Highway 101 north of Florence and turn left on Heceta Beach Rd.\, turn right on 4th Ave. and go to the end\, turn right on Joshua Lane and go to the end. DESCRIPTION:We will be restoring the surface of the trail using digging tools and clearing back the vegetation along the trail as well.\n\n\nCrew Leader: Marty\nMax Size of Crew: 12\nHike Distance: 1 mile\nElevation Gain: less then 30 feet\nHike Intensity: Low\nWork Intensity: Moderate\nWork Type: brushing\, tread work\n  \nProject Information: \nWe will be doing some basic tread maintenance\, using grubbers\, tread tools\, and shovels to restore the surface of the trail. We will work at a gentle pace\, enjoy the forest landscape\, and take some time for lunch. \nHiking information: \nWe will meet at the Neptune State Park Scenic Viewpoint north parking lot before we cross the highway to get on the trail. We will hike to our worksite\, about 1/4 to 1/2 mile in. There are some ups and downs along this trail\, about 50 – 100 feet of elevatain gain. There is no restroom at the trailhead. Closest are a 1/4 north at teh Cape Pereptua Visitor Center or 1/4 south at the Neptune South parking lot. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. DESCRIPTION:Cool at the Coast Golf Spectacular\nJoin the fun at the 15th annual Cool at the Coast Golf Spectacular Aug 3. The tournament gives $4\,000 annually to the Rotary Polio Plus Program\, which is matched 2-1 with funding from the Gates Foundation. Since the first tournament 15 years ago\, the Florence Rotary golf tournaments have funded almost 60\,000 polio vaccina-tions worldwide. The tournament also raises money to help the Rotary Club with projects and schol-arships for the children of Florence and Mapleton. Florence Rotary extends thanks to Three Rivers Casino Resort\, Ocean Dunes Golf Links and PeaceHealth/Peace Harbor for their partnership and support. Where should you evacuate during a nearby forest fire? How do you prepare for an unexpected emergency at your home? How would you help a loved one with a serious injury? What type of emergency materials do you need in case of evacuation? \nGet your questions answered from a host of professionals in the all-day booth area\, with experts in the field helping you prepare to face a crisis with confidence. \nSpeak directly with the emergency personnel who will be helping you through a Siuslaw emergency\, with organizations including the City of Florence\, the U.S. Coast Guard\, Oregon Office of Resilience Emergency Management. \nDo you have a food plan during a disaster? Join a variety of expert homecooks throughout the region as they cook a variety of meals in an all-day “disaster cooking” demonstration. From cooking without heat and water to using portable stoves\, the chefs will focus on non-perishable ingredients in their culinary creations. \nGet hands-on experience with classes such as the annual skin suturing workshop\, sponsored by PeaceHealth\, along with informative talks on topics on communications without cell phone towers\, community wildfire preparedness\, and Water\, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH). \nAnd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.\, enjoy a free hot dog lunch provided by the Rotary Club of Florence\, while supplies last. \n“Beat the Wave” is sponsored by the City of Florence and Three Rivers Casino to connect residents on the Oregon Coast with businesses and emergency service providers to raise awareness about disaster preparedness.

At that time they will accept #2\, #4\, and #5 plastic for recycling. Your #2 plastic jugs and bottles can go directly into the curbside recycle bin\, but the Master Recyclers will accept the #2s that cannot be collected curbside. The #2 plastics that cannot go in the curbside recycle bin include things such as lids\, tubs\, and small bottles\, smaller than your fist.\nThe plastic must be clean\, dry\, and sorted as to number.
