DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. While you can listen in on any GMRS radio on channel 22\, you must have a radio that can accept programming of send/receive offsets and tones (CH 22R (462.725MHz +5MHz offset  186.2Hz Tone).  Please contact Jay Guettler @ westlaneecn@gmail.com for more information or just join us on the radio at the listed time and date.

DESCRIPTION:FACC’s December 3rd monthly program features Rick Chilton\, President of Helping Hands Coalition’s Community Social Health program. The program offers an exploration of cultural awareness and its essential role in shaping group identities within impactful programs. It will emphasize the importance of self-awareness and explore the ten dimensions of cultural values that can enhance your own program initiatives. \nRick and Helping Hands Coalition are dedicated to improving the health and economic stability of marginalized communities in Western Lane County. This program offers a valuable opportunity to expand your cultural perspectives and deepen your connections. We hope you can attend. \nThe December 3\, 2025  meeting starts at 10:45 am in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library District\, 1460 9th Street in Florence. Attendance is also available via Zoom. Its mission is to improve the quality of life in Western Lane County through partnerships\, networking\, volunteerism\, community involvement\, education and awareness. FACC meetings are free and open to the public. Light refreshments are served. Annual dues are $50 for agencies and organizations and $25 for individuals.

DESCRIPTION:Yes\, there is such a thing as a free lunch.  The Florence Methodist church has been providing a free lunch to anyone who wishes to come every Tuesday and Thursday for over 30 years.  Come enjoy a fresh-cooked meal in our dining room.  Lunch is served from 11:30 to 12:30 every Tuesday and Thursday.  We are located at 333 Kingwood St. in the Florence United Methodist Church (the yellow church).  Everyone is invited.  Come and bring a friend. \n(Note:  Lunch is served 11:30-12:30. SUMMARY:18th Annual Nativity Festival in Florence
DESCRIPTION:The Florence Nativity Festival committee recently met to begin preparation for its 18th annual nativity exhibit.  Keeping consistent with the last few years\, this year’s event will be held for 3 days and include live music and homemade cookies.  The festival will run from Friday\, December 5th through Sunday December 7th from 1-5pm each day. It will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located on the corner of North Fork and Munsel Lake Roads in Florence. \nThe event is free.\nFrom a modest beginning in 2006 with 119 nativities on display\, the festival has grown to include almost 400 representing many countries\, media and cultures – all from local community members.   Anyone in the area who desires to display a nativity is invited to participate in the festival. DESCRIPTION:The Empty Bowls 2025 Committee proudly announces the featured artwork for this year’s event. Karylynn Keppol has generously offered her artwork entitled “Bowl Frog\,” to the Empty Bowls 2025 Fundraiser for use in publicity and as a donation to the Empty Bowls Fundraiser.\nKarylynn Keppol is an artist from Florence Oregon\, currently living in Seattle. She primarily works in acrylics and digital drawing\, creating colorful paintings of mythical characters and landscapes inspired by the Pacific Northwest. Kary has been showing in galleries and shops along the Oregon Coast for the past ten years. This year she has focused on quarterly collections of smaller original works\, and her debut picture book\, YogaGirl\, was published in August of 2025. You can find more about Kary and her work on her website\, KaryKeppol.com.\nThe featured art piece will be raffled off at the Empty Bowls Fundraiser. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the Empty Bowls event\, with the drawing taking place Sunday afternoon. The winner need not be present to win.\nWe hope you can join us at the 29th Empty Bowls Fundraiser at the Florence Events Center. The Empty Bowls Fundraiser will occur on December 5th\, 6th\, and 7th. It’s free admission\, family-friendly\, and lots of fun!
