SUMMARY:25th Annual Pounding for Florence Food Share
DESCRIPTION:The 25th annual “Pounding” to benefit Florence Food Share will be held at Grocery Outlet on Saturday\, November 22\, from 10 am to 2 pm.  Founded and hosted by local businesswoman Cindy Wobbe\, this annual food drive aims to fill the food bank’s pantries with much-needed canned\, boxed\, and frozen food items in time for the holiday season.  The event will be conducted as a drive-through donation drop directly in front of the store.  \nStarted in 2000 and held on the Saturday just before Thanksgiving\, the Pounding is modeled after the early tradition often practiced in small communities when a new family or preacher would move to town.  “To help folks get their feet firmly planted\, everyone would join together and contribute a pound of food to fill the pantry.  Someone would bring a pound of flour\, another a pound of sugar\, and somebody else a pound of beans.  When everybody chips in\, we can fill those shelves pretty quickly\,” said Wobbe.   “Nearly 800 families in our community are food insecure and rely on Food Share each month for assistance.  The current housing crisis and economic challenges place extraordinary stress on both Food Share and the families it serves.  That need is not going to go away.  This food drive has been a godsend year after year.”  To date\, this event has raised over 235\,000 pounds of food. \nWobbe will be joined by local radio personalities from KCST Coast Radio\, which has conducted a live radio remote on location every year since the beginning.  Purchasing food from Grocery Outlet is not required; food from any commercially packed source will be accepted.  However\, Florence Grocery Outlet marks specials throughout the store of items most desperately needed at the food bank and plans to have extra staff available during the event to help with pushing grocery carts\, loading boxes of canned foods\, and ringing in customers at the check stands.\nGrocery Outlet is located at 2066 Hwy. 101.  The Pounding will begin at 10 am on Saturday\, November 22\, and continue until 2 pm.

Each session\, we will practice our drawing skills together in a supportive and relaxed environment. Also open to members of the public; beginners welcome! \nLed by a creative arts professional\, at each session\, we will explore a new design\, drawing technique or meditative drawing style. Each assignment will be guaranteed to help you get in the “flow”\, and will help you build new perspectives and skills. If you like\, you can also use the time to work on a meditative drawing project of your own\, share with the group\, trade tips and tricks\, and get technical guidance and support from one another and the group leader. \nYou’re welcome to bring your own drawing supplies and reference material to practice with; We will have extra tools and materials on hand as needed. \nDrawing supplies may also be purchased in advance from Beaux Arts art supply store in Florence\, located just off Hwy. 101 in the Coastal Fitness shopping plaza. \nYou may pre-register for this event\, or pay at the desk at time of session. DESCRIPTION:West Lane Emergency Communications Network is a local neighborhood radio network that conducts a monthly radio check-in on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm PST. During an emergency where our normal communications services are compromised or eliminated\, this radio network would enable neighbors to communicate with each other\, other neighborhoods\, and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wherever it may be located. The radio check-in is conducted on GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channel 22\, utilising our repeater on Herman Peak north of Florence. While you can listen in on any GMRS radio on channel 22\, you must have a radio that can accept programming of send/receive offsets and tones (CH 22R (462.725MHz +5MHz offset  186.2Hz Tone).  Please contact Jay Guettler @ westlaneecn@gmail.com for more information or just join us on the radio at the listed time and date.
