DESCRIPTION:Please join Florence Organizes\, [City Lights Cinema and the Baha’i Community] for a Martin Luther King Weekend-long Celebration on January 17th and 18th to honor MLKs legacy of building unity and peace. \n  \nBefore the  MLK Celebration Parade on Saturday\, January 17th\, there will be a gathering for a brief rally at 1st and Nopal St. A Cocoa Brigade (sponsored by Dunes City Indivisible) will be on hand\, and Lovejoys is offering $3.00 coffee specialty drinks to keep us warm. Mayor Ward will read a Martin Luther King proclamation and Representative Val Hoyle will join our festivities. \n  \nThe rally will be followed by a joyful parade with music from Siuslaw Songrise Stringband\, vintage cars\, local dignitaries and various community organizations. The route starts at 1st and Nopal\, then proceeds down Bay St to Veterans Park. Please come to watch or march along! This is a family-friendly event\, with flags and kazoos for all. Well-behaved pets on a leash are welcome\, too. There is no room for messages of hate in MLK’s vision. If you bring a sign\, make sure it is in keeping with King’s vision of unity\, justice\, equity\, love and peace. \n  \nOn Sunday\, January 18th\, City Lights Theater and our Baha’i community co-sponsor will host a tribute to Martin Luther King at noon. There will be two inspirational speakers\, Russ Pierson\, Dean of LCC Florence and Jayden Ruff\, Chair of South Coast Health Equity Coalition. Then we have a chance to sing uplifting songs with Mark Levy before watching Selma. This is a 2014 historical drama chronicling Dr. King’s 1965 voting rights campaign in Selma\, Alabama\, focusing on the struggle for Black Suffrage\, the historic marches to Montgomery\, and the eventual signing of the Voting Rights Act. Admission is free. The theater is offering a small drink and popcorn for $5. Tickets can be picked up (at City Lights]  or purchased online ($1) after January 10th. \n  \n[MLK Jr. Day of Service is Monday\, January 19th] \n  \nThis is a time to recommit our community to Dr. King’s dream– a dream bigger than him\, bigger than us. DESCRIPTION:Yes\, there is such a thing as a free lunch.  The Florence Methodist church has been providing a free lunch to anyone who wishes to come every Tuesday and Thursday for over 30 years.  Come enjoy a fresh-cooked meal in our dining room.  Lunch is served from 11:30 to 12:30 every Tuesday and Thursday.  We are located at 333 Kingwood St. in the Florence United Methodist Church (the yellow church).  Everyone is invited.  Come and bring a friend. \n(Note:  Lunch is served 11:30-12:30. DESCRIPTION:Yes\, there is such a thing as a free lunch.  The Florence Methodist church has been providing a free lunch to anyone who wishes to come every Tuesday and Thursday for over 30 years.  Come enjoy a fresh-cooked meal in our dining room.  Lunch is served from 11:30 to 12:30 every Tuesday and Thursday.  We are located at 333 Kingwood St. in the Florence United Methodist Church (the yellow church).  Everyone is invited.  Come and bring a friend. \n(Note:  Lunch is served 11:30-12:30. DESCRIPTION:On January 22\, 2026\, FACC and Lane County Public Health will host a review and discussion of the recently completed 2024-2025 Community Health Assessment. FACC aims to provide our Western Lane communities with relevant\, useful demographic information. \n1 – 4 pm in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library\, FACC and Lane County Public Health will host a Data Party to present and discuss the data underlying the new Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). \nThis is a major step in a collaborative project to build a Western Lane demographic database that describes our communities\, that helps us understand our problems\, and that aids us in creating solutions.  \nAmong other things\, we wish to provide a public and accessible source of information for those who seek grants and funding. Your participation can help make this a reality! \nThe CHIP data and plan documents are hosted by Live Healthy Lane on their website\, and you are encouraged to download and explore the information before the Data Party. \n \nLive Healthy Lane is a community-based effort to improve the health and well-being of those who live\, learn\, work\, and play in Lane County. \nCreating the conditions for optimal health is the responsibility of everyone in our community. The community work includes the periodic assessment of health issues and needs in Lane County (the Community Health Assessment; CHA) and the development and implementation of the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
