DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed to help the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative remove invasive Scotch broom from the John Dellenback Dunes on Saturday\, June 27 from 10:00 AM to Noon. John Dellenback Dunes is one of our “Preserve the Best” sites with lots of good open sand dune habitat for native plants and animals; so it is an important location to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom. It is approximately 0.4 miles uphill on the trail to the worksite. After the event\, it is a short walk to an outstanding viewpoint of large\, open sand dunes with the ocean in the distance. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. Day use fees are waived for volunteers at this event. \nDirections: From Florence\, take Hwy 101 South approximately 32.8 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn right (west) into the trailhead. \nFrom Reedsport\, take Hwy 101 South approximately 10.5 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn right (west) into the trailhead. \nFrom North Bend\, take Hwy 101 North approximately 13.0 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn left (west) into the trailhead.

DESCRIPTION:The City of Florence is excited to announce that we will be hosting the 2026 Community Block Party on Friday\, July 17\, 2026\, from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Historic Old Town Florence. This free event is open to families\, residents\, and visitors of all ages. \nThe 2026 Block Party will be held on Bay Street between Laurel Street and the Siuslaw River Bridge. A free concert will be provided from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. by the band 5 Guys Named Moe. Thank you to Three Rivers Casino Resort for sponsoring the band for the second year. \nThe Block Party also features free BJ’s Ice Cream\, popcorn from City of Florence Staff\, a photobooth\, and fun activities for all ages\, including rock painting\, face painting\, and games\, each sponsored by local community organizations. These partner agencies and service groups will set up throughout the Block Party area. Plus\, Florence Public Works and the Environmental Management Advisory Committee will debut Florence H2O On The Go – a 125-gallon water filling station. Bring your water bottle to the event! \nTo build up to the event\, the City is bringing back the Community Scavenger Hunt! Thanks to sponsor Central Oregon Coast Board of Realtors (COCBR)\, an electronic scavenger hunt will run through the Goosechase platform. There will be interactive photo and video challenges to encourage attendees to get out and about throughout our community\, starting on Friday\, July 3\, and concluding on Sunday\, July 19. The Scavenger Hunt will include the Fourth of July holiday and the Block Party\, with themed challenges and special tasks. DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is proud to be a part of the annual Power of Florence event\, a day where area residents and visitors can volunteer and give back to the Florence community. For this event\, ODRC will be at Heceta Dunes\, one of our “Preserve the Best” locations. This is a location where volunteers can make a difference by removing invasive plants like Scotch broom\, and the native plants and open sand habitat will survive into the future. \nOn Saturday\, July 18 from 10 AM to Noon\, volunteers will remove Scotch broom plants on the flat near the entrance to the dunes\, working east to the tree island. It is a short walk on flat ground until the tree island which is a moderate slope. This is a family event\, children and grandchildren are welcome. Come for as long as you can\, if you need to leave early\, that is fine. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDirections: Take Highway 101 north of Florence and turn left on Heceta Beach Rd. (the road to Driftwood Shores)\, turn right on 4th Ave. and go to the end\, turn right on Joshua Lane and go to the end. Please do not block driveways or mailboxes. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.
