SUMMARY:Environmental Management Advisory Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Sustaining and improving the City’s livability and quality of life is Goal 2 of the City of Florence work plan. The Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) realizes Goal 2 by developing local strategies and advising the City Council on protecting Florence’s health and environment and conserving energy and natural resources. They are responsible for insuring compliance with the City’s solid waste code (FCC 9-4)\, and DEQ’s recycling education rules (OAR 340-090-0030 & 0040) and they serve as the City’s Tree Board. \nEMAC consists of 5 to 11 members\, of which the majority must be residents of the City and includes additional ex-officio non-voting members. Members serve for a term of four years with a term expiration on May 31st. \nEMAC Meetings are generally held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 3:00 p.m. For the latest schedule\, visit the City’s calendar page.\nHERE \nQuestions about the committee\, waste reduction or recycling in Florence? Contact Wendy Farley Campbell at 541-997-8237.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED -- Scotch Broom Removal at Sandtracks Picnic Area – Saturday\, October 25
DESCRIPTION:Due to the predicted high winds and rain\, this volunteer event has been cancelled. We hope to reschedule this event for March next year. \n  \nVolunteers are needed to help the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and the Coos Watershed Association remove invasive Scotch broom at the Sandtracks Picnic Area on Saturday\, October 25 from 10AM to Noon. Sandtracks is one of our “Preserve the Best” locations where volunteers can make a difference by removing the invasive plants\, so the native plants and open sand habitat will survive into the future. It has been a few years since Scotch broom has been removed from this location\, so there will be plenty for all. The area where we will be working is flat and close to the parking area. Children and grandchildren are invited\, this is a family-friendly event! \nBring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Dress for the weather\, bring rain gear if there is a threat of rain. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDirections: \nFrom North Bend\, take Hwy. 101 North across the McCullough Memorial Bridge and turn left onto the Jordan Cove/Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.8 miles and keep right to continue on Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.2 miles and turn right onto Horsfall Beach Rd. Go 0.9 miles and turn left into the Sandtracks Picnic Area. \nFrom Reedsport\, take Hwy. 101 South approximately 21 miles and turn right onto the Jordan Cove/Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.8 miles and keep right to continue on Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.2 miles and turn right onto Horsfall Beach Rd. Go 0.9 miles and turn left into the Sandtracks Picnic Area. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place. For more information about ODRC\, go to our website\, www.saveoregondunes.org.
