DESCRIPTION:City of Florence EMAC Launches Free Speaker Spotlight Series with DEQ Materials Management Specialist Justin Gast\nThe City of Florence Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) is proud to announce the launch of its new Speaker Spotlight Series\, beginning Wednesday\, March 11\, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Lane Community College\, 3149 Oak Street\, Florence\, Oregon.\nThe inaugural event features Justin Gast from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Materials Management Program. Gast will present “Where Does Oregon’s Recycling Go? The Importance of Responsible End Markets Under the Recycling Modernization Act.”\nThis 60‑minute presentation will give residents a clear look at what happens to their recycling after it leaves the curb. Gast will highlight Oregon’s most commonly recycled materials\, explain how Responsible End Markets ensure safe and environmentally sound processing\, and discuss how new fleet technology supports statewide contamination‑reduction efforts in partnership with DEQ\, CAA\, local governments\, and service providers.\nAttendees will enjoy snacks and refreshments\, have access to additional educational materials\, and can participate in giveaways and an opportunity drawing. DESCRIPTION:The Siuslaw/Western Lane County Seed and Scion Exchange is a free local event open to the public.\nThere are three main purposes for this event.\n1) Encourage and promote individual and regional resilience regarding our local food supply. \n2)This event will offer an opportunity for local and regional sharing of seeds and scions collected from and adapted to our local area. This includes sharing and distributing\, heirloom seeds\, heritage fruits\, and developing landraces. We will also hope to offer a selection of fruit tree scions to root or graft. The seed and scion collection and grafting effort is backed by volunteers from the Agrarian Sharing Network. \n3) To socialize and connect with others in our community and identify food\, farming and gardening related resources and services. \nServicing:\nAll people in the Siuslaw Watershed and Western Lane County: Florence\, Glenada\, Dune City\, Ada\, Mapleton\, Swiss Home\, Deadwood\, Walton\, Veneta\, Elmira\, etc.

SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at North Jetty of the Siuslaw River Park – Saturday\, March 28
DESCRIPTION:Join the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Lane County Parks to remove invasive Scotch broom at the North Jetty of the Siuslaw River Park on Saturday\, March 28 from 10 AM to Noon. We will be working on an area that is very close to the parking area on flat\, sandy slopes and/or along the road near the parking area. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nAs you know\, the weather on the Oregon coast can be quite varied. One day it can be nice and sunny\, which we are hoping for on the 28th\, the next day it can be stormy. Dress for the weather! If it is sunny or misting\, we will be working\, if it is a storm\, we will cancel. We will make the best call that we can Friday afternoon\, the 27th. Check our webpage\, www.saveoregondunes.org/events/ or our Facebook page\, Save The Oregon Dunes\, for updates. \nDirections: \nFrom the intersection of Hwy. 101 and Hwy. 126 in Florence\, OR\, go west on 9th Street 0.9 miles\, turn right on Rhododendron Dr. and go 2.9 miles\, turn left on North Jetty Rd. and go 1.0 mile to the North Jetty Beach parking lot. WATCH OUT FOR POTHOLES NEAR THE END OF THE ROAD! \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative’s mission is to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand\, unique habitats\, and dunes processes that benefit the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place. \n
