DESCRIPTION:Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is sponsoring a Scotch broom removal event at Heceta Dunes on Saturday\, April 5 from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom from one of our “Protect the Best” sites. This is a family event\, children and grandchildren are invited to attend and help! \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have a limited supply of tools you can borrow. Dress for the weather\, bring rain gear if showers are predicted. If a storm is predicted\, we may cancel. Check our Facebook page\, Save Oregon Dunes\, the morning of the event if the weather is questionable. \nDirections: Take Highway 101 north of Florence and turn left on Heceta Beach Rd.\, turn right on 4th Ave. and go to the end\, turn right on Joshua Lane and go to the end. Please do not block driveways or mailboxes. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day in the beautiful Siuslaw River estuary as we remove garbage to keep our river clean and healthy. \nSpring is in the air\, and trash is in the estuary! Join the Siuslaw Watershed Council and McKenzie River Trust for the third annual Siuslaw Estuary Cleanup. \nSpring is an ideal time to take to the water and remove debris from estuary islands and low-lying wetlands\, pushed up on the downriver side by the winter’s tides. Keeping these important ecosystems trash-free is critical not only for their wellbeing\, but also for the wellbeing of neighboring communities who depend on all the ocean and river estuary have to offer. Thank you to CTR for the donation of a roll-off dumpster for the event! \nThis year we are excited to partner with artist Elizabeth Roberts. DESCRIPTION:Once again\, the Florence Area Community Coalition (FACC) invites organizations from across the region to sent their amazing volunteers and staff to an event that honors their contributions to the community. This year’s event will be held at the Florence Event Center on April 23rd from 1:00 to 3:00PM. Elizabeth Thompson\, Executive Director of the Oregon Coast Humane Society\, is the Keynote Speaker.\nAll community volunteers are welcome!\nTickets are $15 per person or $90 per table of eight attendees.\nDuring the event\, a slide-show of photographs of volunteers in action is shown. Tables will be provided where participating organizations may share their informational and promotional items and volunteer opportunities.

DESCRIPTION:McKenzie River Trust is hosting a “Connect with the Land Tour” on Saturday\, April 26 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area. Registration is required and space is limited. Use this link to register: https://give.mckenzieriver.org/…/secrets-of-the…/e673319. \nThe Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is one of the largest expanses of temperate coastal sand dunes in the world. Join us for a guided hike with members of the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative (ODRC) to learn about hte history and geology of this special place. ODRC members Dina Pavlis (dunes enthusiast and author) and Armand Rebischke (Restoration Botanist\, Siuslaw National Forest) will take us through the forest and across open sand\, sharing about the history and geology of the Oregon dunes. Dina and Armand will discuss how the dunes formed\, the importance of the open sand habitat\, why open sand is disappearing\, and the efforts in place to try to save it. Additionally\, you will explore a ghost forest\, learn about the native plants and animals that call the dunes “home\,” and discover the important benefits of the open sand habitat. \nThis hike will traverse sand that may be soft in some locations. There will be some elevation gains during the hike (with a short rest time/talk after each elevation gain). Closed-toe shoes\, sunscreen\, water\, and snacks are recommended. Dress for the weather (layers recommended; bring rain gear if showers are predicted). \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place. \nFrom Florence\, OR take Highway 101 south 11.4 miles. Look for the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area sign. Turn right (west) into the parking area. \nFrom Reedsport\, OR take Highway 101 north 11.5 miles. Look for the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area sign. Turn left (west) into the parking area. \nParking: A day use pass ($5.00) is required for this event.  The pass may be purchased and printed ahead of time for your vehicle by going to this site: Siuslaw National Forest Site Pass in Oregon – Recreation.gov. A Northwest Forest Pass\, Oregon Pacific Coast Pass\, Interagency Annual Pass\, or an Interagency Senior Pass may also be used instead of the day use pass.
