SUMMARY:North Fork Smith River 3 day BCST – Central Coast
DESCRIPTION:Join TKO on one of our Back Country Service Trips! Spend 3 days cutting vegetation/working on the trail surface while backpacking riverside.\n\nFor more details and to register\, click here. \n\n\nThis project will require strong hiking abilities\, and will include completing work while moving an overnight pack. Please consider your personal fitness level before signing up. If you have any questions\, or are unsure if this the right trip for you\, please reach out! \nProject Information: \nWe will spend three days (two nights) brushing and fixing the tread (surface of the trail) along this 8 mile trail. Day 1 we will start at Kentucky Falls and work as we go cutting heavy brush and fixing tread. We will hike up to 3 miles to our first camp spot. Day 2 we will continue moving down trail\, brushing and working on tread\, focusing on a major landslide. We will hike up to 2.5 miles to our second camp. Day 3 we will continue our brushing and tread wokr and hike the last 3 miles to the trailhead. \nHiking information: \nWe will hike from the Kentucky Falls Trailhead down river to the North Fork Smith Trailhead. This trail is 8.5 miles in total with up to 800 feet of elevation change\, mostly downhill desecent. We will hike 3 miles the first day\, 2.5 miles on day 2 and just under 3 miles on day 3. The trail is a moderate descent at the start and then meanders through creek drainages\,with a strenuous uphill ascent before camp 2. We will stop frequently to cut brush and fix tread. There is some shade on the trail\, and moving a pack along as you work can be quite strenuous. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons\, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early. \nCamping Details: \nThis is a self-supported trip! Please make sure to bring adequate food and water filtration\, as well as tent\, sleeping bag\, and any other equipment you may need for 2 nights in the backcountry. SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at Bull Run OHV Staging Area - Saturday\, October 10
DESCRIPTION:Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Save the Riders Dunes are inviting volunteers to remove invasive Scotch broom at the Bull Run OHV Staging Area on Horsfall Road\, Saturday\, October 10 from 10AM to Noon. This will be ODRC’s last volunteer event for 2026\, so if you haven’t been out yet\, now is your opportunity!!! \nThis will be a short flat walk\, just off of the staging area. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. Day use fees are waived for volunteers at this event. We will be meeting at the north end of staging area. \nDirections: \nFrom North Bend\, take Hwy. 101 North across the McCullough Memorial Bridge and turn left onto the Jordan Cove/Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.8 miles and keep right to continue on Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.2 miles and turn right onto Horsfall Beach Rd. Go approximately 2.1 miles and turn right into the Bull Run OHV Staging Area. \nFrom Reedsport\, take Hwy. 101 South approximately 21 miles and turn right onto the Jordan Cove/Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.8 miles and keep right to continue on Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.2 miles and turn right onto Horsfall Beach Rd. Go approximately 2.1 miles and turn right into the Bull Run OHV Staging Area. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.
