SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at Three Mile Prairie County Park – Saturday\, August 29
DESCRIPTION:Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative\, Lane County Parks\, McKenzie River Trust\, and Friends of Three Mile Prairie are co-hosting a volunteer event on Saturday\, August 29 from 10 AM to Noon at Three Mile Prairie County Park in Florence\, OR.  Volunteers are needed to protect the sand dune habitat and its native plants and animals by removing invasive Scotch broom and small trees. \nThree Mile Prairie is located north of Florence Golf Links and west of Highway 101 at Fred Meyer. It is a 15-minute walk from the northwest corner of the Fred Meyer parking lot to the work site over some sand and fairly level ground. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDirections: From the intersection of Highways 126 and 101 in Florence\, drive north 2.3 miles and turn west into the Fred Meyer parking lot at the Fred Meyer gas station. Drive past the gas pumps and go to the northwest corner of the parking lot towards the dunes in the back. Event leaders will meet you there. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.

SUMMARY:Harris Ranch 3 day BCST – Central Coast
DESCRIPTION:Join TKO on one of our Back Country Service Trips! Spend 3 days cutting vegetation/working on the trail surface while in the wilderness. \nFor more details and to register\, click here!  \nThis project will require strong hiking abilities\, and will include completing work while moving an overnight pack. Please consider your personal fitness level before signing up. If you have any questions\, or are unsure if this the right trip for you\, please reach out! \nProject Information: \nWe will spend three days (two nights) brushing and fixing the tread (surface of the trail) along this 3.5 mile trail. Day 1 we will hike to the bottom and set up base camp\, have lunch and do afternoon trail work. Day 2 we will hike up the trail and work on tread and brush. Day 3 we will pack up camp and slowly hike our way out while working along the way. \nHiking information: \nWe will be hiking from the Harris Ranch Trailhead. We will descend down the trail as a group. We will establish a base camp at the bottom of the trail and this is where we will camp for the 2 nights. We will hike up from the campsite up to 1 -2 miles each day and then on the final day hike the 3.35 miles back out. This means that you may want to bring a smaller day pack to use when we go back up the trail to do work. \nThis is a narrow and diffult trail with uneaven terrain. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons\, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early. \nCamping Details: \nThis is a self-supported trip! Please make sure to bring adequate food and water filtration\, as well as tent\, sleeping bag\, and any other equipment you may need for 2 nights in the backcountry. If you need to borrow some gear (sleeping bag\, water filter\, backpack\, etc) please let me know asap! \n

This is an opportunity to volunteer and give back to your Public Lands! \nIt will be relatively short walk on moderately sandy slopes to get to the work area. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nThe Day Use Area is mid-way between Reedsport and Florence. Day use fees are waived for volunteers at this event. \nDirections: \nFrom Florence\, OR take Highway 101 south 11.4 miles. Look for the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area sign. Turn right (west) into the parking area. \nFrom Reedsport\, OR take Highway 101 north 11.5 miles. Look for the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area sign. If you have any questions\, or are unsure if this the right trip for you\, please reach out! \nProject Information: \nWe will spend three days (two nights) brushing and fixing the tread (surface of the trail) along this 8 mile trail. Day 1 we will start at Kentucky Falls and work as we go cutting heavy brush and fixing tread. We will hike up to 3 miles to our first camp spot. Day 2 we will continue moving down trail\, brushing and working on tread\, focusing on a major landslide. We will hike up to 2.5 miles to our second camp. Day 3 we will continue our brushing and tread wokr and hike the last 3 miles to the trailhead. \nHiking information: \nWe will hike from the Kentucky Falls Trailhead down river to the North Fork Smith Trailhead. This trail is 8.5 miles in total with up to 800 feet of elevation change\, mostly downhill desecent. We will hike 3 miles the first day\, 2.5 miles on day 2 and just under 3 miles on day 3. The trail is a moderate descent at the start and then meanders through creek drainages\,with a strenuous uphill ascent before camp 2. We will stop frequently to cut brush and fix tread. There is some shade on the trail\, and moving a pack along as you work can be quite strenuous. \nYou should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons\, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early. \nCamping Details: \nThis is a self-supported trip! DESCRIPTION:Join CoastBusters for its annual Walk for Breast Cancer on Saturday\, September 26\, 2026\, at Newport High School or Saturday\, October 3\, 2026\, at Siuslaw Middle School in Florence. Registration opens July 1 at CoastBustersWalk.org. \nCoastBusters is a local nonprofit organization founded by breast cancer survivors to support local breast cancer patients and their families throughout Lincoln County and the coastal communities of Lane County. Through community walks and other fundraising efforts\, the organization provides financial assistance for essential expenses such as transportation\, groceries\, rent\, utilities\, and other needs that help ease the financial burden of a breast cancer diagnosis. Funds raised stay local\, and help patients focus on healing.  No one should face breast cancer alone.

This will be ODRC’s last volunteer event for 2026\, so if you haven’t been out yet\, now is your opportunity!!! \nThis will be a short flat walk\, just off of the staging area. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. Day use fees are waived for volunteers at this event. We will be meeting at the north end of staging area. \nDirections: \nFrom North Bend\, take Hwy. 101 North across the McCullough Memorial Bridge and turn left onto the Jordan Cove/Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.8 miles and keep right to continue on Trans Pacific Pkwy. Go 0.2 miles and turn right onto Horsfall Beach Rd. Go approximately 2.1 miles and turn right into the Bull Run OHV Staging Area. \nFrom Reedsport\, take Hwy. 101 South approximately 21 miles and turn right onto the Jordan Cove/Trans Pacific Pkwy.
