SUMMARY:Annual FREE Black and White Community Collection Event
DESCRIPTION:Every year the City of Florence Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) hosts a Black and White Community Collection event in partnership with Lane County and County Transfer and Recycling (CTR). The free event is notable for collecting unwanted tires\, refrigerant appliances and propane tanks. Last year\, Habitat for Humanity\, St. Vinnie’s and Lions Club also participated in collecting more items like used paint\, reusable construction supplies and household items\, mattresses\, eyeglasses and hearing aids.\nThis year\, even more local organizations are joining in to make the Community Collection Event the most impactful yet. The new partners include:\nOregon Coast Humane Society will be collecting pet food and toys and general shelter supplies\,\nFlorence Food Share will be collecting non-perishable food items like peanut butter\, canned goods and pasta\,\nCircular Action Alliance (CAA) will be collecting non-recyclable materials that cannot go in our recycling carts  – items like plastic snap on lids\, stretchy plastic film\, shredded paper\, plastic beverage handles\, pressed aluminum products and plastic buckets. (Insert attached flyer)\nLane County Management Fix It Fair Booth – Fix-It Fairs are free\, public events promoting reuse and repair by offering participants the chance to have their items repaired by our team of skilled fixers. Stay tuned for more details on what repairs will be offered at this event!\nCTR will also be taking yard debris for free  – three large garbage bags per household only – and rechargeable batteries. \nThe drive thru event will be held on Saturday August 22\, 2026 from 10 am until 1 pm at the South Parking Lot of the Siuslaw Middle School. SUMMARY:July 5 2026 Dirtiest Day of the Year Beach Clean Up!
DESCRIPTION:Clean up After the 4th of July ! Help keep our public beach clean especially after the July 4th festivities! We will be cleaning up beach starting at Driftwood Shores – from 9 am until noon on Sunday July 5th.  \nMaster Recyclers of Florence and The City of Florence Environmental Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) along with County Transfer and Recycling (CTR) will be hosting the event. Thanks to Lane County Parks for their support and Driftwood Shores for their collaboration! Volunteers will get a “reward” for their efforts! Come and join us !\nThank you for doing your part to protect the ocean\, wildlife and environment!  \nAdvanced Registration: Is required. SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at Three Mile Prairie County Park - Saturday\, August 29
DESCRIPTION:Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative\, Lane County Parks\, McKenzie River Trust\, and Friends of Three Mile Prairie are co-hosting a volunteer event on Saturday\, August 29 from 10 AM to Noon at Three Mile Prairie County Park in Florence\, OR.  Volunteers are needed to protect the sand dune habitat and its native plants and animals by removing the invasive Scotch broom and small trees. \nThree Mile Prairie is located north of Florence Golf Links and west of Highway 101 at Fred Meyer. It is a 15-minute walk from the northwest corner of the Fred Meyer parking lot to the work site over some sand and fairly level ground. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDirections: From the intersection of Highways 126 and 101 in Florence\, drive north 2.3 miles and turn west into the Fred Meyer parking lot at the Fred Meyer gas station. Drive past the gas pumps and go to the northwest corner of the parking lot towards the dunes in the back. Event leaders will meet you there. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative works to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand habitat that benefits the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.
