DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is hosting a volunteer event to remove invasive Scotch broom at the Exploding Whale Memorial Park on Rhododendron Dr. in Florence\, OR on Saturday\, May 30 from 10 AM to Noon. Volunteers are needed to remove small Scotch broom in a meadow and larger plants on a slope going down to the Siuslaw River. Families are welcome to attend. Bring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, a hat\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels or hoes\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDue to limited parking at the city park\, please park along Hemlock St. and walk to the park (approximately 1000 feet). \nDirections: \nFrom the intersection of Hwy. 101 and Hwy. 126 in Florence\, OR\, go south on Hwy. 101 0.3 miles\, turn right on Rhododendron Dr. and go 0.3 miles\, turn left on Hemlock St. and park along the street. Go back to Rhododendron Dr. and walk west 0.2 miles to the park. \nThe Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative’s mission is to collaboratively support\, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand\, unique habitats\, and dunes processes that benefit the plants\, animals and people who live and play in this special place.

DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed to help the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative remove invasive Scotch broom from the John Dellenback Dunes on Saturday\, June 27 from 10:00 AM to Noon. John Dellenback Dunes is one of our “Preserve the Best” sites with lots of good open sand dune habitat for native plants and animals; so it is an important location to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom. It is approximately 0.4 miles uphill on the trail to the worksite. After the event\, it is a short walk to an outstanding viewpoint of large\, open sand dunes with the ocean in the distance. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. Day use fees are waived for volunteers at this event. \nDirections: From Florence\, take Hwy 101 South approximately 32.8 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn right (west) into the trailhead. \nFrom Reedsport\, take Hwy 101 South approximately 10.5 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn right (west) into the trailhead. \nFrom North Bend\, take Hwy 101 North approximately 13.0 miles to the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead. Turn left (west) into the trailhead.

SUMMARY:Scotch Broom Removal at Heceta Dunes – Saturday\, July 18 – A Power of Florence Event
DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is proud to be a part of the annual Power of Florence event\, a day where area residents and visitors can volunteer and give back to the Florence community. For this event\, ODRC will be at Heceta Dunes\, one of our “Preserve the Best” locations. This is a location where volunteers can make a difference by removing invasive plants like Scotch broom\, and the native plants and open sand habitat will survive into the future. \nOn Saturday\, July 18 from 10 AM to Noon\, volunteers will remove Scotch broom plants on the flat near the entrance to the dunes\, working east to the tree island. It is a short walk on flat ground until the tree island which is a moderate slope. This is a family event\, children and grandchildren are welcome. Come for as long as you can\, if you need to leave early\, that is fine. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. \nDirections: Take Highway 101 north of Florence and turn left on Heceta Beach Rd. (the road to Driftwood Shores)\, turn right on 4th Ave. and go to the end\, turn right on Joshua Lane and go to the end.
