SUMMARY:Power of Florence - Heceta Dunes Scotch Broom Removal
DESCRIPTION:As part of Power of Florence\, the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative is sponsoring a Scotch broom removal event at Heceta Dunes on Saturday\, July 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom from one of our “Protect the Best” sites. This is a family event\, so children and friendly dogs on leash are welcome. \nWear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes for hiking on the sand and bring work gloves\, water\, snacks\, and sunscreen. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have a limited supply of tools you can borrow. \nDirections: Take Highway 101 north of Florence and turn left on Heceta Beach Rd.\, turn right on 4th Ave. and go to the end\, turn right on Joshua Lane and go to the end. SUMMARY:Three Mile Prairie Dunes Scotch Broom Removal
DESCRIPTION:Come join the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Lane County Parks on Saturday\, June 22 from 10 a.m. to noon to remove invasive Scotch broom and small trees from the Three Mile Prairie Dunes County Park in Florence\, OR. \nThe Three Mile Prairie Dunes site provides good habitat for dunes-adapted native plants and wildlife\, but is threatened by invasive weeds and vegetation. It is located north of Florence Golf Links and west of Hwy 101 at Fred Meyer. It is a 15 minute walk from the northwest corner of the Fred Meyer parking lot to the work site over some sand and fairly level ground. This is a family event\, so children and friendly dogs on leash are welcome. \nBring closed-toe shoes\, work gloves\, water\, and snacks. Please bring shovels\, hand saws\, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t\, ODRC will have a limited supply of tools you can borrow. \nDirections: From the intersection of Hwys 126 and 101 in Florence\, drive north 2.3 miles and turn west into the Fred Meyer parking lot at the Fred Meyer gas station. Drive past the gas pumps and go to the northwest corner of the parking lot towards the dunes in the back.
