SUMMARY:Marine Debris Mini Mosaics Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Oregon Shores and the Siuslaw Watershed Council for a hands-on workshop where beach debris becomes art with meaning! \nCreate ephemeral\, multidimensional “mini mosaics” using real marine debris collected along the Oregon Coast. The session begins with an introduction to how king tides and marine debris shape our shoreline\, followed by a guided discussion on the complex role plastics play in our lives. \nParticipants will then explore bins of cleaned\, color-sorted debris and choose pieces that spark their curiosity—imagining where each item came from or what it once was. Using black foam board as a backdrop\, everyone will design a nature-inspired scene that holds personal significance. \nWhen the artworks are complete\, we’ll take a short “gallery walk” to appreciate one another’s creations before returning all materials to their bins. Together\, we’ll close with a conversation about what we discovered\, how our perspectives may have shifted\, and creative ways we can reduce plastic pollution in our communities. \n  \nThis workshop is free- but space is limited! Sign up here to save your spot.

SUMMARY:Siuslaw River Invasive Species Removal
DESCRIPTION:Join the Siuslaw Watershed Council as we work to remove invasive species at an active environmental restoration site on the banks of the Siuslaw River! Invasive plants like foxglove\, scotch broom\, and ivy were introduced for ornamental and functional purposes and now threaten our ecosystem through their aggressive propagation and ability to outcompete native plants. But we can make a difference! Removing invasive species can be a simple and rewarding way to help take care of our home. \nRegistration is required for this free event: to register please see the linked event website. Volunteers will meet at the north end of the Florence Safeway Parking Lot before travelling together to the site\, an approximate five-minute drive. Participation in the event will necessitate walking on uneven ground and slopes\, stooping\, bending\, and pulling. Snacks will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring sunscreen\, hats\, and a reusable water bottle as the day may be warm. Long sleeves may be advisable for working in brush.

SUMMARY:Siuslaw Estuary Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day in the beautiful Siuslaw River estuary as we remove garbage to keep our river clean and healthy. \nSpring is in the air\, and trash is in the estuary! Join the Siuslaw Watershed Council and McKenzie River Trust for the third annual Siuslaw Estuary Cleanup. \nSpring is an ideal time to take to the water and remove debris from estuary islands and low-lying wetlands\, pushed up on the downriver side by the winter’s tides. Keeping these important ecosystems trash-free is critical not only for their wellbeing\, but also for the wellbeing of neighboring communities who depend on all the ocean and river estuary have to offer. Thank you to CTR for the donation of a roll-off dumpster for the event! \nThis year we are excited to partner with artist Elizabeth Roberts. As part of our cleanup we will be separating suitable plastics for use in her art. Elizabeth’s work can be found on her Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/marinedebris911/ \nArtists Statement:\n“As a passionate advocate for clean oceans and coastal stewardship\, I spend much of my free time hiking and exploring Oregon’s beautiful coastline and watersheds. Over the years I have participated in large scale marine debris removal projects and research expeditions in both the Gulf of Alaska and the Gulf of Maine. As an artist\, I use marine debris to create art that inspires awareness about plastic pollution and how single use plastic and our consumer choices are impacting our oceans fragile ecosystems.” \nRegistration required: to register please visit: https://tinyurl.com/35r6fpfa
