DESCRIPTION:For 29 years\, our community has gathered to remember loved ones at our PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Light Up a Life annual celebration.  We have prepared a special program for the holiday season with reflective readings\, music\, reading of the names\, and the lighting of our dedicated Light Up a Life tree at the Florence Events Center.  Please join us as hospice staff\, volunteers\, community families and friends come together.  This remembrance will provide a time of solace and quiet remembrance\, reminding us that we are not alone\, and our loved ones will never be forgotten. \nLight Up a Life is open to everyone in our community grieving a loved one. \nTo submit your loved one’s name(s) to be read\, please call Peace Harbor Hospice by December 1st at 541-997-3418 or email charkness1@peacehealth.org. DESCRIPTION:Sweet Dreams: The 2024 Holly Jolly Follies \nNothing kicks off the holiday season quite like C.R.O.W.’s production of The Holly Jolly Follies.  This year’s Follies will be presented at the Florence Events Center December 6\, 7\, and 8.  \nDirector and playwright Melanie Heard has created an enchanting script entitled “Sweet Dreams: A North Pole Nutcracker.”  The show is loosely based on the beloved classical ballet’s story\, but according to Heard is “Not your grandma’s Nutcracker!”  Heard danced in the traditional Nutcracker for eight years\, portraying every role from a dancing Mirliton to a demi-soloist Waltz of the Flowers dancer\, to a partygoer to a soldier chasing rats around.  “The Nutcracker is forever a part of my heart\,” she says.  “But this show is quite a spin on the classic favorite.”   \nSeveral familiar characters will return\, including adorable Sparkle Elf.  Sparkle was cast as “Clara” in the North Pole’s Nutcracker\, but Santa and Mrs. Claus have had her running around so much that she’s become totally exhausted!  During a Nutcracker rehearsal\, she falls asleep and is whisked away to a magical dream world where she encounters bizarre\, mystical\, and fantastical creatures.  She also meets a handsome Prince who teaches her the power of friendship.  Sparkle learns that being present for the little things in life is perhaps one of the most beautiful gifts of all.  \nThis year’s Follies will feature musical direction by Maree Beers\, associate direction by Genevieve Shahan\, plus many other talented volunteers and performers.   \nAs always\, there will be delightful variety act style performances\, intermixed throughout.  These will include the Flight Dance Team\, several beautiful vocalists\, various aged tappers\, hip-hoppers\, and belly dancers\, C.R.O.W.’s ballet and contemporary dance class performances\, a commercial spoof\, The Sugarplum Fairy variation\, live music\, the Dance Moms\, and of course…. the World Famous Tutu Dads – who will waltz their way across the stage like never-before-seen vivacious blooms.   \nTicket sales from the Follies support C.R.O.W.’s free and low-cost arts programming\, including scholarships for youth\, educational materials\, and production costs for the non-profit’s Spring mainstage production (Matilda The Musical)\, which will hold open auditions in January 2025.  The Follies is a family friendly event\, and also features a lobby boutique with treats and surprises\, and a concession stand provided by the Events Center.  There will be collection bins in the lobby to benefit Florence Food Share\, so please consider bringing food donations when you attend the show.   \nFor tickets to the 2024 Holly Jolly Follies\, visit the Florence Events Center website at www.eventcenter.org\, or call 541-997-1994.  Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for kids 12 and younger.  Military can receive an in-person discount at the box office window of $2 off.  Showtimes are Friday at 7 pm\, Saturday at 7 pm\, and Sunday at 2 pm. DESCRIPTION:Empty Bowls \nIt’s that time of the year again when we gear up for the 28th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. We are currently collecting handmade ceramic bowls\, unique artwork\, and other special items for our silent auction. Our family-friendly event is aimed at raising funds for Florence Food Share\, our local food pantry that serves those in need. \nLocal students of all ages\, as well as amateur and professional potters\, woodturners\, and glass artists have already donated over 900 items to this cause. We are excited to add contributions from textile artists\, photographers\, and other media to the mix of artwork offered to the public. Empty Bowls is a community event with sponsors\, artists\, and many volunteers working together to make it successful. \nMost handmade ceramic bowls will be sold for $15 each\, with some available at a lower or higher price. The event also features a silent auction with artwork by many of your favorite local artists\, including paintings\, photography\, fused glass\, and more.The fundraiser will occur on Friday\, December 6th\, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.\, Saturday\, December 7th\, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.\, and Sunday\, December 8th\, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. \nAdmission is free\, and you can shop for handmade one-of-a-kind gifts while supporting a good cause. DESCRIPTION:2024 Gingerbread Home Contest \nC.R.O.W. excitedly announces a delicious community contest that anyone can participate in!  To coincide with their upcoming production of the 2024 Holly Jolly Follies\, which is called “Sweet Dreams: A North Pole Nutcracker\,” C.R.O.W. will offer a gingerbread home decorating contest with prizes! \nThe entry fee is $25 per person/family/business with all proceeds supporting C.R.O.W.’s annual non-profit youth arts programming.  Each gingerbread home will have a 14” x 18” maximum space allotment\, and the designer’s name or business will be displayed next to their home. \nC.R.O.W.’s Artistic Director Melanie Heard says\, “What better way to bring joy to everyone who attends the Holly Jolly Follies\, Empty Bowls\, FRAA’s Arts Faire\, the Festival of Trees\, and several other seasonal events at the Florence Events Center.  Put your creativity on display\, and you could win a $100 cash prize for first place!”  Runners up will receive free tickets to CROW events plus other surprises.  Businesses are also invited to donate gift certificates or other prizes to up the ante. \nThe gingerbread homes will be judged by the public.  Voting tickets can be purchased for $1 each or 6 for $5\, and voters can put all of their tickets into their favorite homes’ box\, or spread them out amongst several favorites.  Tickets will be available for purchase at the FEC box office during business hours\, or at the lobby boutique during the Holly Jolly Follies performances. \nFor an entry form\, plus a list of rules and instructions\, please visit www.crowkids.com/gingerbread.  The entry deadline is November 15th\, homes must be dropped off to the FEC on November 25-29th\, and they will be on display for voting through December 15th.  At the end of the contest\, homes will be returned to their designers in time for personal display for Christmas.  Entry space is limited\, so if you know you want to participate\, don’t wait to fill out your entry form online. \n“We encourage everyone to create something deliciously magical\,” says Heard.  Should you have questions\, please send an email to: crowtheatrekids@yahoo.com. \nFor tickets to The 2024 Holly Jolly Follies\, visit call 541-997-1994 or visit www.crowkids.com/holly-jolly-follies
