SUMMARY:2025 Community Christmas Basket Project
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 51st Annual Christmas Food Basket Project!\nSoroptimist International of Florence and our volunteers will be handing out Christmas Food Baskets at Siuslaw Middle School on Saturday\, December 20th from 10am to 1pm.\nNo registration is required to receive a Christmas Food Basket. Just come on down when we are distributing.\nAll cars must line up on 27th Street between Kingwood and Oak Street and will be directed on how to enter the pick up line.\nThe Christmas Food Basket Project is coordinated by Soroptimist International of Florence. At last year’s event\, Soroptimist members\, along with our over 100 volunteers\, handed out about $40\,000 worth of food and holiday cheer to 459 families representing over 2\,200 people.\nInterested in helping to fund the Christmas Food Basket Project? SUMMARY:City of Florence Community Development  BLACK & WHITE RECYCLING EVENT AND COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DAY!
DESCRIPTION:Summer is almost over which means it is a great time to do a community household clean up!\nWant to dispose of propane tanks\, mattresses\, tires\, block foam\, household goods\, eye wear\, hearing aids\, unopened food\, or leftover paint and building materials? And\, you don’t want to run all over town? The City of Florence Environmental Management Advisory Committee has organized a “one stop” drop event. \nSave the date of Saturday\, August 16th from 10 am until 2 pm\, and drop off your items at the Siuslaw Middle School south parking lot with entrances on 27th and Oak Streets. Volunteers and staff are available to help you unload your vehicles and trailers. \nThe main happening is the city’s annual Black and White Recycling Event\, so named because it enables city residents to get rid of unwanted black tires\, white propane tanks and historically white appliances FREE of charge. County Transfer & Recycling will be loading and transporting these items with size and quantity limitations as follows: propane and helium tanks 5 gallons or smaller; freon appliances—like refrigerators\, air conditioners\, and water coolers\, and passenger automobile tires that have 19.5″ rims or smaller limited to 5 per household. Disposal of Black and White items are limited to city residents\, but after 1pm disposal will open up to the greater Florence area residents if funding is still available using the generous donations of Les Schwab and St. Vinnies. \nThis year\, other organizations listed below are joining the event to provide additional FREE disposal opportunities. Here is what they are accepting:\n•St. Vinnies: mattresses\, block Styrofoam and household items for reuse. SUMMARY:CoastBusters Walk for Breast Cancer
DESCRIPTION:CoastBusters Walk for Breast Cancer is the outcome of two local breast cancer survivors’ desire to inspire hope for other women and their families struggling with the effects of breast cancer. The 2nd annual CoastBusters Walk is a 3-mile walk that will be held on the track at Siuslaw Middle School on Saturday\, October 5th. Proceeds raised from the event will stay local and benefit Oregon Cancer Foundation. This foundation provides a wide array of support that aids breast cancer patients with many facets of their cancer treatment. CoastBusters is an opportunity to proudly raise awareness in the community and offer hope\, strength\, and courage to all who have been affected by breast cancer.
