Siuslaw Genealogical Society

April 20, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

People have been holding family reunions for generations to reconnect with relatives, introduce the newest members to the family, and remember their shared ancestors. And, with a hiatus on them since 2020, this may be a record year! If you hope to plan one, some great ideas will be shared by Kevin Mittge at the April meeting of the Siuslaw Genealogy Society. The meeting is Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 3 pm, in
the Bromley Room at Siuslaw Public Library. All are invited to attend.

A large number of Robbins family members arrived in Decatur County, Indiana, at its creation in 1822. Over the two hundred years since, many of the families remained in the county while others moved on . . . some to the Pacific Northwest over the Oregon Trail, some to other places around the western United States, and some to the large industrial cities of the middle west during wars and depressions, but ties to Decatur County remained strong for many years. A centennial reunion in 1922 drew 1,000 attendees. Kevin Mittge, a Robbins family historian, dreamed of having a bicentennial reunion in 2022, celebrating 200-years of the family being in Decatur County. This program will detail the background, the idea, the planning, and the result of this effort. Visit www.siuslawgenealogy.org for more information.
