Scotch Broom Removal at the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area – Saturday, February 28

Join the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative for our first volunteer event for 2026! We will be removing invasive Scotch broom and Portuguese broom at the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area on Saturday, February 28 from 10 AM to Noon. It will be a short walk on moderate, sandy slopes to get to the work area. Bring closed-toe shoes, work gloves, water, and snacks. Please bring shovels, hand saws, or loppers if you have them. If you don’t, ODRC will have tools you can borrow.
The Day Use Area is mid-way between Reedsport and Florence. You can go to the beach after the event. It is a two-mile hike round trip. Children and grandchildren are invited, this is a family-friendly event!
As you know, the weather on the Oregon coast can be quite varied. One day it can be nice and sunny, which we are hoping for on the 28th, the next day it can be stormy. Dress for the weather! If it is sunny or misting, we will be working, if it is a storm, we will cancel. We will make the best call that we can Friday afternoon, the 27th. Check back here or our Facebook page, Save The Oregon Dunes, for updates.
